I got one of these from Brent and Becky. tiny, but you can already see the variegation.
Melanga today :)
Thanks.....it will have a tag tomorrow.
Mystic,I grow most in the ground, this one has a tendency to burn in noon sun,so I left it in a pot,so I can find the right spot for it,would hate to burn it,I really like this one.
Xanthosoma Sagittaefolium Variegata
Largest pot; richest soil
likes water but not for a bog or pond.
Solid green leaves are better for the plant so it tries to revert back to solid green. Cut off any solid green leaves to keep the Variegation going.
It looks great Brugie. I have one with a white spot of the leaf too. Wonder if they are different?
Thanks Susie. I keep hoping for more variegation and I think it will come with time.
Is yours a Xanthosoma Sagittaefolium Variegata? I'd love to have the variegated Mac. Can't spell that name and I'm too tired to go look it up.
Wow Shirley! Yours still has tons of leaves! Mine only has about 6-7 but they are huge. I can't post til I get a new camera.
Wow S,that looks great!!!!!!
Brugie, yes, mine is a saggitafolium, not macrorhiza. I don't think I've seen a variegated mac. but sounds pretty.
Wow that looks nice! Will you have to take it in for the winter? I haven't taken a pic of mine for a bit. I think it is buried in the weeping willow. LOL
Mine looks bad now. I learned one lesson: Do not put the melanga under a hickory tree! The leaves are full of holes. I think the squirrels take aim with the nuts and hit my plant on purpose!
That's gorgeous Brugie!!! Wow, makes mine look pitiful.
Thanks. Sure too bad it is going to have to be compost, at least most of it. I can't keep all these jungle plants over the winter. May still see what I can work out with our local greenhouse. I'd like to see this one with a little more time on it.
That's it! The dogs are playing football with mine next year before I plant it!
Wow tiG, that is absolutely something else!! Maybe I should have left mine in the ground after all. Is it in shade or sun. I need to know these things for next year. Beautiful!!
Hi Tig, that is a monster compared to mine. Other than the dog playing with it what is your secret.
Dang Bonnie,yours looks great!!!!
it started out in shade, but it's grown big enough it gets afternoon sun now. I fed it twice, but too busy to feed it more often. The puppies drug it out of the ground and I let it on top, just got busy. It rooted there. I have one next to it that I planted like doc told us in the beginning and it's less than half this size.
Well, I guess next year I'll let mine lay on it's side then. Will be moving mine to a little shade tomorrow. Those leaves are just soooo beautiful. I love it. Good job. I'd say you are the winner so far, but John might stop in one day and surprise us all. LOL!!
OUCH!!!!!!!!
Had to Bump this on up!
