Nice looking plant Michele. How tall is it. Looks to be up there a ways. When are you going to put it in the ground? Are you guys still cold in Ohio?

Just got back from the craft store! : )

You two are way ahead of me. I've got to come up with a magic pill for these babies.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Oh look, "silk" guy added a new leaf. :) You are so kicking my butt! LOL

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

this is the puppy one. doing 5 times better than the ones planted straight up in the ground.

Thumbnail by tiG

Oh No...badseed ! tiG is pulling ahead!! back to the garden shed to sort out my arsenal of assorted nutrients, might even break out the snake oil !!! : )

John

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Alright tiG, you dang cheater! How many gallons of miracle grow did you throw on this guy??? LOL Maybe we should all run out and tear ours down with our teeth, then rip it out of the ground with our toes! It seems to have done wonders for yours! LOL (I even went back and compared her old pic with her new. The plant marker and whatever that pine cone thing is, are in exactly the same place! It is either the same one, or she really carefully replaced it with a huge one).

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

haven't fed it once! all the leaves are coming out of the bottom. wonder what it will do when I feed it (right now! LOL!!!)

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I am going to go put solar panels around mine and a heater and a mister and, and and.......alright, I admit defeat. ROTFLOL

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Hey Brugie, I just went out and checked mine with a tape measure for you. :O) The plant itself is right at 20" tall. The biggest leaf, the second to sprout is 8.5x11". I measured the pot too because I was there. LOL The pot is 7x7", don't remember how much it holds. I am sure I need to repot though or put it in the ground. Here I sit will all these ears, nanners, etc. and I can't decide how to use them. LOL

Hey! I think we need to get some kind of point system...Like , zone ten deduct 5 points, gallons of miracle grow 2 points, Solar panels 10 points.etc...LOL

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I was thinking more like, 'That poor girl is in zone 6! Add 20!' LOL I guess Brugie will beat me though since she is only in 5. :)

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Come on John, only a ten point deduction for ZONE10!!!!
Maybe we need to add 10 points for the person that can keep one in the ground without a leaf the longest!LOL!I gotta get some points somehow!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

My leaves are really short. Michele, you are making me very jealous. Can't say it is zone envy though because you aren't all that much better off than me. All I can say is that if this thing ever takes off, look out!! I'm gonna have leaves all over the place. We are warming up now, so I expect big things to happen.

My head is still spinning that the Doc has added 5 points! to the innocence of zone 10! Here we have BS using solar panels ,Bruggie with her well tilled soil , tiG with undisclosed amounts of MG! and I get 5 points because of zone ten!!! This means war ..LOL.. I've got weapons in the garden shed that have yet to be deployed! (G)

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Had to wipe the weeping tears from my eyes for you John,LOL!!! Just saw the 14ft Brug and Nana pic!
CC,put on your traveling boots,I'll bring the ice cream,I'd say we need to head south and eat some of them Nanas and sniff some Brugs!!
Guess I'll have to take a pic of my tiny little pup tomorrow, and all I have now is some Brug buds,I keep looking at my garage and thinking it sure would make a nice Greenhouse,LOL!!!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Look out folks, John is bringing out the big guns. I think war is inevitable now Doc. I've got to go check my garden artillery shed and see what I can come up with. Must be some secret out there that I've forgotten about.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Pssst Brugie, mine likes fish poop soup (seafood emulsion). My third leaf is breaking loose and will be unfurling soon. You will be caught up in no time at all. i have no fear you have the greenest thumb!

Mableton, GA(Zone 7b)

That's one thing I've found out recently about my african violets. They LOVE the water from my fish tanks. And lord knows I have plenty of nasty fish water. lol

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I don't even own any fish emulsion. Guess I'll just stick to what I have on hand and I'm sure it will take off soon. I definitely have a nice "pup" off it that is coming along well. Well, what do you call them? LOL!!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Well, I was doing so good today, put all my ears and nanners in big pots and was making some headway cleaning off my deck benches. I even finally got my melanga (with it's third leaf! LOL) into the ground! Then I got two boxes from Cala. Sigh. I'm back to square one with the benches but the yard is sure filling up!

BS...I know what you mean! square one keeps getting me this year!

# 4 ! count em and weep! LOL

About how tall is your plant John? Mine is staying very short but has a lot of leaves.

Brugie..All kidding aside : ) I'd say maybe a foot and a half.. I did notice that the 4th leaf stem has some color to it. Mine sure is a slow grower .

John

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

You dawg!! Four leaves???? Back to the silk I suppose! LOL I do have a nice firm three. :) Mine is in the ground now and the temps have hit the 80s. I expect to catch up or pass you up! LOL Oh, by the way, mine is a good two feet tall. ha ha ha ha ha

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Mine is pushing six inches but looks like a bush. Wonder what I've done wrong. Well, I've got three months to catch up and I'm sure working on it.

are these plants from one of the TC co-ops miine are only about 6" maybe i should put then in something besides 4" pots

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Well Brugie, you are a zone below me and I am sure you will rise up and kick my butt any second. LOL
Troy, these were not from a co-op but something some nice guy sneaked into the mailboxes of the unsuspecting. :O) Now it is all out war. LOL

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Yep, it's all Doc's fault. He started this....where the heck is he with his pictures. I better shut up. I don't see any of mine on here either. Tomorrow!!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

LOL Shirley! You busted yourself!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

troy, you can find malanga in the grocery store produce aisle.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

All the ole Doc can show is pics of mulch!!!!better put some VooDoo to it,time for a leaf dance, then it's off to get the MG!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Okay, don't laugh!! Here is my malanga. Picture taken about a half hour ago. There are seven or eight leaves on this stunted little thing, not counting the tiny ones. I'm starting to think that I might have been ahead to peel and eat this one. :-)

Thumbnail by Brugie

B.S do not put it in the ground!!! look at Brugies!! you will ruin it for sure! LOL
Brugie , I think yours looks great! I wonder why mine looks so strange ? It is in less then a half day of sun.do you think light may play a role?
I'm wondering if the Doc is just holding back on us to make the kill that more fun!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Gosh John, I thought everyone's malanga looked good but mine. I sure hope this thing makes up its mind to grow one day. It will look good if it does. I feel like I'm so far behind in this little contest that I'll never be able to catch up. Michele, John might have the right idea. Yours was growing so well, it might end up looking like mine if you put it in the ground. I've even thought about digging mine and putting it in a pot. John, mine is in almost all day sun right now, but as the other stuff grows, it will end up being in full shade at the rate it is going.
