Looking for a Peony

Plain City, OH(Zone 5b)

Hi!

A friend and I went shopping yesterday. As I left I promised my DH that I would not buy one single plant. (That was to prepare him for my withdrawal symptoms when I returned.) To my surprise, he said, “Unless you happen to see a dark red peony.” We frequently pass by a home that has a beautiful VERY dark red double peony in the front yard. In fact, I would almost call it maroon. I did not realize that he was so impressed. Since he has been so tolerant of my many plants - I would like to favor him with a dark red peony plant this fall. Can anyone give me a name of a dark red peony? (I don't really trust the description on the tags on plants.)
Thanks,
Rosiesplace

Do a web search for peonies and see if you can find the place in Sarcoxie, MO. They have a catlog and raise literally acres of dozens of varities of peonies.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Gilbert Wild is in Sarcoxie. Here's a list of places that carry peonies: http://gardenwatchdog.com/advanced.php?category=20&submit=Search; many of them have online catalogs.

And here's a link to the Plants Database entries for Paeonia: http://plantsdatabase.com/b/none/Paeonia/
