Telemarketer got you down?

Fremont, CA(Zone 9a)

Starting July 1 there will be a national registry for "DO NOT CALL." There is a good article at http://moneycentral.msn.com/content/Banking/FinancialPrivacy/P49439.asp
For those of you in California you can sign up now at http://www.nocall.ag.ca.gov/
After July 1 register with the Federal Trade Commission at http://www.ftc.gov/donotcall

Thanks for that info. That is not one day too late.
I recenty had a call where a recording asked me to please wait for the next available agent. I still can't get over that one.

When I am feeling realllllly bored and get one of those phone calls with the delay before the telemarketer picks up. I just start saying "Hello......Hello, is anyone there" when they answer I just repeat the same thing as if I can't hear them. It is really fun to hear their reaction that I can't hear them. Generally they do not have a real name, or phone number to go with the call and they don't call back.

Due to popular demand....my kids wanted me to have one...I just got an answering machine.....part of my messaage says "if this is a telemarketer, this is your official notice to remvoe me from your calling list". So....what did my second incoming call say? "Congratulations!! You have just won a trip to Disneyland for only $99.00". Go Figure. LOL Jo

Does anyone know if this applies to "charities"?

A bogus "charity" here in GA keeps calling me even though I told them to stop. The attorney general and several police departments are investigating this charity but they keep on calling.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Kentucky has had a no call list for about a year now...my calls have dropped down to nearly nothing...I'll attest to the fact that this _does_work.

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

Louisiana has also had a "do not call" list for quite some time, and it helped a lot. I can't wait for the National list to kick in.

The best ones, and ones that apparently won't be bothered by the new list, are the political ones. Since we don't answer the phone unless proper caller id info displays, the answering machine records them all. We got to listen to repeated, personal messages from political bigwigs, like Barbara Bush and Gov. Mike Foster during one recent election. They were hysterical! We played 'em over and over again. The big talk of the town was "who did you hang up on today?" lol

I read that when you answer the phone and get dead air space it's some sort of auto dial to determine when the phone is answered. When this happens just hit the # key 7 or 8 times rapidly..it's supposed to confuse the machine so it doesn't call again. Don't know if it really works, but I LOVE hitting that # key!! A simple pleasure without being rude.
