Don't mean to sound dumb, but what do nurseries mean when they advertise "liners?" Thanks!
Liners
A liner is a propagated plant ready to be potted on or transplanted.
It's not a dumb question, I live near to Southampton and a liner to me is a big passenger ship ;)
It's a good question, Dale - one that I didn't know the answer to until recently. I submitted what I found in my research as a definition of liner plants in Garden Terms: http://davesgarden.com/terms/go/547.html
Some liners are grown in cell packs, like the 6 packs you see annuals in at local department stores and home improvement stores. My experience with them is the realm of hostas. The plants that I saw (in Georgia) have to go through one dormant period in a cell pack before they get transplanted into larger containers. Not sure if that helps, but it's my contribution anyway. :)
