have old postcards

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

As many of you know, I am moving across the world, in going through stuff that had belonged to my dad I came across tons of postcards, plus I had some too...I would like to find someone that collects postcards that i can send them to.
A lot of them are from museums of paintings, some of old ruins, and a lot of scenics - from all over the world.

Anyone interested?

I would LOVE to have some :)

Pebble, I wonder if a school or library wouldn't be a good place for these. This is such a marvelous thing to come across, an intact collection of fine graphics and global interest. In a library, they could serve many, instead of being limited to a very few. Of course, you might not have time to contact them, but a teacher you have worked with might be interested in handling them.

Aimee, good idea. I hadnt thought of that. And now I am kicking myself, in going through my Dad's stuff, he was an artist, and had a whole foot locker full of art books, I couldnt even deal with them, and just took them to the good will. (what a shame) I am not happy with the goodwill anymore, I still take stuff there, but they put it out to sell at such high prices, I am now looking for a women's shelter to take clothes and stuff to. Goodwill has just become another money making industry in my opinion.

flow, I can still send you some - I'll try to get an envelope out to you this week or next.

Aimee, I did find a book that I earmarked for you....
it is about collectibles...to go with the books that I got at the book sale - how long has it been now? 2-3 months? they have been sitting on my kitchen bar...
I'm going to send them to you via Media mail. I'll send it out next week - ok? sorry it took so long

RRose, just e-mailed you...I can send you some too.

Just tot ell you some of the funny things I found when going thru my dad's art stuff:

a hair drier that must be at least 50 yrs old, he used it to dry his paintings....weighed a ton, it had the option of being a hand held, or had it's own stand. went to good will

an old movie camera - gave to a friend, she can try to get some money out of it if she wants...

you know, you cant keep stuff forever, at one point you just have to say enough and start parting with stuff...
it broke my heart, but egads.....

you should have seen the art books....

Pebble, I so agree about Goodwill. About fifteen years ago, they hired some folks who had marketing degrees, and that was the beginning of the end. You will no longer find those wonderful treasures, as professionals are in the back sorting rooms.

Georgetown has a little place which was established by some local doctors and others of a philanthropic mindset, called The Caring Place, and they were originally staffed by volunteers but might be hiring some needy people now. They are doing the work of providing food, furnishings and clothing at a low price, but even they have become a little more pricey lately. Austin has some places, one or two including a church basement operation, which provide clothes for battered women who need to seek employment, and I think the clothes are free. These are very local, but I think the idea isn't. But it seems there is no one specializing in paper things or amateur art items. There are books at Caring Place, usually at a good price. Sometimes the library has a table or shelf with free things. Again, a teacher would probably know about such sources in your area. Hmmm, sounds like a good fund-raising activity for a class project: something to be handed down to a new group each year, maybe with a librarian or history student to oversee and a business type of structure. But I digress...

You are such a sweetheart, to be thinking of me and my book quest in the middle of your ordeal of packing, selling, moving, and all that you must handle alone. I am touched. As I came up the stairs today, I passed the lovely wall hangings you gave me, and as usual I admired them. But now I see them as more of a connection, something to remember you by until you are settled and back in the garden regularly. I smile and think of all the new people you will touch in various ways, knowing you will do it with the same touch of class as evidenced by these items. Again, thanks, Pebble.

Aimee, thank you for your kind words.
I had wondered what had happend at goodwill, your explanation makes sense...
the place I am looking into is a similiar place that you describe, where down and out people can come and find some clothes for free to go to interviews, job search etc., I want someone to benefit from all my business clothes other than goodwill making a buck!
Also, I thought of a shelter, because in going thru my stuff, i have found that I have a million bottles of half used shampoos, conditioners, face creams, lotions etc., that could be put to good use at a shelter.
you just dont think about all the little things, and I hate to throw perfectly good stuff out. but you just cant take everything.....

oh my.........I would have loved to have those art books as I love art and took many art classes in school. Shame they went to goodwill :(

flo, you know, it broke my heart...but there is only so much you can do.....what could I have done? I have to get rid of everything.....
I did have a garage sale, and a book seller came, and bought a box of books, and asked me how much I wanted and I told him to name his price, I know this dealer, because we both volunteer at the friends of the library, but we are by no means "pals" I was expecting him to say I'll give you 5 bucks for the box and I would have been happy - he offered me 20 and i let him have it, I know he will turn around and sell them for at least 3-4 times of that, but - as I said, I have to get rid of them. then he pointed out a book, and said, if you have a mind to...check this out on .....and gave me the name of a site on the web, and told me to look it up - i might find that it is valuable.....I didnt, i gave it to a friend to do if she wanted. I thought that was real upstanding of him....

I sold some art books to a tatoo artist who was looking for new and creative designs - from the old masters....lol

I understand, you have to do what you have to do :)
I do look forward to the postcards though

Good luck Pebble in your new endeavor! I think that I recd. some butterfly bushes from you last spring.
Have you tried any of the battered womens shelters. They can sure use things, no cost to the person on the receving end, either.

My family donates to Spouse Abuse centers. The women who are there usually can't go out and do anything. They are for the most part hiding from the abuser. We send craft items, sewing kits, books. The shampoos and lotions would be wonderful, and they keep a clothes closet for the women who leave with absolutely nothing.Ours accepts household items such as dinnerware, pots and pans, and small appliances to help get them back in housekeeping.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

yes, Maxine and melody, that is the kind of place I am hoping to find.
Maxine, could very well be - I had so many of them and sent out so many, hope they lived through your cold winters. Mine havent started to bloom yet...How are yours doing?
