plant of the day page

Dave, Is there any way we could have a page where there could be a different plant off of the plant forum every day? It would be neat to be able to have a new plant to read up on every day.

If this can be done, is there any interest?

Or even weekly, if daily would be too much work!! Maybe members could provide pictures from their own gardens, and write up a little about their favorite plant!!

Something like a daily link to a random page in the plant database? That would be way cool! I forget to look unless I'm hunting for specific information.

My how the times change. When I first created Dave's Garden, I used to have a features "Plant of the Day" where I would showcase a different plant each day, and link it over to the USDA Plants Database.

Nowadays, we have a more complete and concise database than they do, including lots of good pictures, detailed information, and cultivar/seed saving info.

I like the idea and will play around with it next time I'm got a few free moments.

Thanks Dave! I remember that and I really liked it then, but you are right. We have a really good list going here.

Thanks JewelOrchid. I created DG for myself last summer and I'm very selfish with a lot of the things I create. Most of them are features that I want for myself, but I just make them so that everyone else has access to them as well (like the journals, for example).

Well, I love DG just as much as everyone else does!!

Momcat,

I think the whole idea of the Plants Database here at Dave's is that the entries are put in by members writing about their favourite plants and adding photos of them in their garden. If every member added just one plant, the DG DB would have nearly 2500 plants in, every entry based on personal experience.

Mary, what a thought! I guess that explains why I put so many in before gardening season officially began; I couldn't possibly have just one favorite! Now, if every member put in their favorite three...or ten...or one hundred plants - yikes!!!! We'd have such a massive amount of data it would make the M2K problem seem small in comparison, LOL! (What a great problem to have, though, huh?)
