The weather around here got real bad Wednesday night. The local paper had us down for 11 inches of rain that night. Other reports from a friend that made a trip to Jackson Tn. to carry water to the storm victims there was he ran in a storm in Birmingham that dropped 7 inches in an hour. We had one death of a woman drowing when her car went in a ditch. I had never seen it rain as it did Wed. night. It was just never ceasing. I live about a quarter mile from West Point lake and it is out of it's banks everywhere. It is fed by the Chattachoochee River that is taking the water from Tn., Al, and north Ga. One of the Atlanta T.V. stations weather men said to imagine 2 football fields and them 2 feet deep in water and that was the amount of water that was coming through West Point Dam each second. I had my basement full of water from a small creek back of our house. I'm praying that it doesn't rain for a few days until things improve. It is cloudy however. There was a lot of talk about the Dam breaking. The water got to less than a foot from the top of the dam yeterday. Our local T.V. station has been showing people trying to get things from their homes in boats. They showed a SUV van with water over the windshield and a car completely emerged and three men in a boat at the house loading a couch and other belongings on to the boat.

Looks bad. I grew up in a flood area in PA along the Susquehanna and we lost our home in the flood of '72. After that my parents moved to higher ground. I remember as a kid living in a half double home we used to come down the back outside stairs halfway and get in a boat and row to the railroad tracks and walk to town to stay with friends.
As for the rain, I've had enough, it has been raining here for weeks and just doesn't want to let up. It is pouring right now.

Jim, are you in danger if the dam breaks???? the place my mom was renting in West Point flooded really bad, she was right behind that grocery they kept showing.

I think we will be alright. I went back to work Wed. and I was worried about Bobbie yesterday when they started talking about the dam breaking. Her being here by herself and not able to get about any better than she does. tiG I was thinking about you this morning when I posted. I remember last year you and I were hollering about it being so dry. I think the water shortage is over. I decided I will wait a couple of days to get on the basement. If it floods again it will be labor wasted. Sorry to hear about your mother. Everywhere we looked yesterday we would see helicopters. I guess they were news taking pictures.

oh my goodness, just looked at those pictures. That is allot of water for sure. Hope it won't rain again for a while so you can get to the basement. I'm glad that you and your family are alright though

Jim, I pray for you and Bobbie to be safe and for the water that threatens your area to recede.

Jim, has it stopped raining yet? This years weather is a mess and so many people are having damage. Tell Bobby hello for me and please be careful clearing the basement.

Praying for dry weather to come your way~
