Dave, problem with editing?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Dave, when I try to edit my own message, two things are happening:

1. I cannot add a hyperlink - in the preview, it just shows the URL.

2. The changes are not "taking" - I press "submit" and when I return to the thread to see the post, it has the footnote indicating it has been edited, but the edited information is not there.

Am I doing something wrong?

Third attempt to edit - third time's the charm!

Still doing it - I tried to enter a hyperlink, it showed up as the URL in the preview, but as you can see, there's no edited text in the box above.

Vols: Do another edit and try again. I'm now logging more detailed information, so I'll be able to better see what's going on.

Dave,

Same thing happened to me yesterday, posting a url on a edited message only post the url, didn't turn it into a hyperlink.

Ok, will somebody please try it again right now? I put in some debug testings, but I can't debug until somebody tries to edit a post and unsuccessfully add a url.

Thanks for your help in fixing this. Just edit your post, add a URL, and I'll take it from there.

Dave, my second attempt to edit the original post still didn't work. :(

Okay, try again.

Woohoo! The only (minor) glitch I encountered was when I previewed it, I didn't see the hyperlink, only the URL in the preview. But obviously it worked when it posted. Whew! I was beginning to think I just wasn't meant to edit a post anymore. Thanks, Dave!

Regarding the (minor) glitch of showing you the actual URL, instead of the hyperlink, in the preview, that's actually a planned feature. I wanted you to see the URL in its full during the preview, and then hyperlink it after you committ the changes.

But, then, it's not a real preview, is it? I'll have to change the behavior, but that may take a slightly lower priority.

Dave

oh dear, I wish I knew what you're all talking about!

Vinca,

You walked into a bug-fixing session. These bug fixing sessions are the primary purpose of the existence of the "Dave's Garden" forum. Generally, it's some advanced senior members helping me nail down a bug so I can fix it.

Dave,

I think having the url in preview is better than the hyperlink, this way if the url is incorrect you can correct it before posting. sometime copying a url from the address box from ms ie will get you the url plus an extra space at the end, resulting in an error.

i vote for the url in preview, then hyperlink only after 'send' is submitted.

Well, Tim, that was my original thought also...

Just to throw my two cents' worth in here, I like to be able to click on the green "Hyperlink" in preview before I submit a post. If the link doesn't work properly, I can fix it in the text box below before I submit it. The same logic holds true if I'm editing a post....but it's not a big deal, more of a nice-to-have.

Dave, Dumb question--why do my posts say "edit this page"?
I don't understand. Just a little dense, I guess. I don't want them edited at this time. Can you explain for me.
Thanks MOM

mom54,

That's just there in case you ever want to change a post you made. You don't have to, but if you ever want to add information to the post, or fix a typo, the option is there.
