Cosmos atrosanguinea

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

better known as Chocolate Cosmos isnt sterile as we once thought.

The plant, from Mexico, is almost extinct in the wild. I read on a bulbs only email group that people growing it in the southern hemisphere are actually collecting seeds and sending them to the Mexican plant experts to sow in the country. cool or what?!

Bolton, Greater Manc, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

wow! this is a plant I have always wanted. I have had it in my hand many times but for some reason I have never succumbed! :(

btw I think you clarkei mount stewert has succumbed. I cant find it anywhere!! :(((

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

I had it two years ago, loved it, but I couldn't overwinter it. The flowers looked and smelled great. I took some cuttings, could get them to root, and sent some to Spain. Wonder are they still alive and growing there?

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

I found them on a wholesale, trade only, web site where they cost 50p each yet by the time we buy them they are £6

Woodburn, OR(Zone 8a)

That's great news! I just bought some plants this spring, they are just coming out of dormancy..I'll have to try to start some from seed this summer and see what happens, maybe I'll get lucky!

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

My neighbor bought one of these a few years ago, but we had a severe winter that year, and they didn't survive (labeled as hardy for zone 6 and above).

I am always thrilled to hear about borderline extinct plants that are coming back!!!
