It's snowing here. This cold front with rain/snow is supposed to last for the next few days. Oh, Spring, where are you?

Well bless you guy's hearts. We were under a winter storm watch last weekend and my hydrangeas and some of my hostas got hit really hard. I'm sure they will pull out of it. Hope it warms up for you real soon. Got all my fans pointed north lol.....

Northport, ME(Zone 5b)

This AM it was snowing in Bangor. Stopped and sunny afternoon. Had my bike out 2x this spring. Doesn't look good for this weekend. May you all be warmer than Bangor.

Bolton, Greater Manc, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

10yrs ago we had an ice storm on april fools day-I remember becuz it was the weekend of my fathers funeral!
The memories have been just like the freezing rain-pouring!
:-(

I NEED SPRING!!!

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

as I sit here and read this with my windows open, barefeet and shorts...(ducking ice balls that Dori hurls my way) I wonder why anyone would subject to living in such a harsh climate...(ducking more ice balls from Dori)....

HEY DORI, the house behind ours is for sale ;0)

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

There's one up the road from me for sale too! I've spent the last 2 days mowing this field I call a lawn.Got sunburnt...or was that tar splashes?

Anyway,it's a big relief here for it to finally be warm...worst winter in 30 years they said. It's been near 80 the last few days...ducking again....!~

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

oh you two!!!! ***SPLAT*** Tarice balls for you both!
I had to chip away a spot to see out my van window this morning so i could go buy fruit trees down the road, luckly it was only 1/4 mile away!!!

We are getting it too Dori. Snow first, then freezing rain. This morning there were semi trucks in the ditch all over the place. One rolled over, but the others I saw were just stuck. It's nasty out there. It took me just shy of an hour to get to work and it usually takes me about 20 minutes. I'm starting to really hate this!

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

I am beginning to think spring will be over before it gets started here. Had 2 nice days, just to get me excited and bam now back to 50's and 30 at night, just isn't conducive to what I have planned!

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Oh my dear sweet Northern Friends.......hope this helps until the sun finally comes out to kiss your faces!!
http://www.dayspring.com/ecards/predesign.asp I love all the spring cards, but the Spring Renewal brought you all to mind.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

We are getting hammered-its really dangerous here!! We have been with out power since noon-till 8:30 tonight!!no daylily planting today-This is just crazy the freeeezing rains are still falling and then snow later. there are still 1000s with out power-HEAT_tonight.
OH for goodness sakes!!!!
Send out the SUN!
The trees are going to start breaking with all the ice!!!
My big pine is just coated! :(

:(

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

Dori, please take care up there! I hope yall have some power soon. I am pointing my heavy duty southern fan your way!

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

I can sympathize, I lived in Chicago 7 long years and remember one of the worst snow storms in April! Got caught on the interstate. Moved south after that. Take care, it will be over soon.

Albany (again), NY(Zone 5b)

*sigh* - I am ready to give up. All of the ice - more snow. We had almost half an inch of ice.

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Well, it makes you appreciate spring even more!

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Okay Dori, I'm going to start throwing snowballs too. LOL

But it did warm up a bit today, enough to melt the ice off the roads and such. They are predicting more snow this weekend though. I REALLY need to get out to my garden shed before that hits and get some pots drug in so I can pot up my daylilies and such.

I just re-read this thread again, and I just wanna get my dibs in on that spot up the road from Melody. :) Warmth, spring, MOWING already!, sun....oh my that sounds like heaven. Plus, she could teach me more about them heirloom 'maters I've become obsessed with. :)

Okay, I'm off to pout about the weather again. LOL

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

We are also getting it up here. Snow, freezing rain, and then more snow. Before it's over the weatherman said we will get 12-24". Then another storm is heading this way on Monday. Jeesh!!!! I'm seriously considering becoming a snowbird. The only good part is that the sub zero temps are finally gone.

south central, WI(Zone 5a)

Joining in, we had 73 on Monday;; rain, ice, snow and thunder today. Police asking folks to stay off the roads, I sure am doing that. It is supposed to stop by tomorrow, but the next storm will be coming through. I am hoping that it does warm up by mid-week, I have plants to dig and get in the mail. Actually looked at books for where to retire that has good weather etc. I am not a skater and do not ski well!!

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

Real [deleted] day here. Some snow, more to the east. Cold, windy, miserable. Oh well only April. Worked on the store remodel today, coming along nicely. Only 13 days left till openning! Can't wait! Flowers are ready.

We're covered in ice here as well, if the sun would shine this cruel April fools joke would look like diamonds glittering everywhere.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Actually, there are two spots within 2 miles of me that are quite nice. One is about 3 or 4 acres with a nice sized, well kept house.Looks to be at least 3 bdr, built in the 70's most likely.Has a very nice garage/workshop out back. The other is a mini-farm with 10 acres more or less, fruit trees and a couple of barn/sheds.It's mostly fenced and would make a nice place for milk goats or alpacas.

Prices are much cheaper than up north and taxes are low. Will make enquiries for anyone who is serious.....Would love to have gardening neighbors...and if they are already friends...so much the better.

Weather is still warm,we had a couple of pretty nasty thunderstorms come through last night...one with light hail. The hail wasn't much...about the size of peanuts...we don't get concerned about hail till it gets the size of nickles...or bigger. That's the downside to living here.Spring storms can devastate a community.I had holes the size of baseballs in my vinyl siding after one storm.Insurance paid out over 10,000 to fix the damage. So it's a trade off.hopefully lightning...or hail won't strike the same place twice. These 'downbursts' as they are called are very concentrated...up the road a mile and things were normal.

Mount Hermon, LA(Zone 8b)

*Sigh*.... One man's poison....

As I sit here in this muggy 87-degree heat with the air-conditioner on, I dream about seeing REAL SNOW one day, and am struggling to get everything planted now because by the end of April, it will be too darn hot to go out in the garden in mid-day temps.

I'm going to box-up all this heat and ship it North for you guys. Will accept snowballs in return.

Albany (again), NY(Zone 5b)

LSP - you're on. As I drove home from the store today, I realized, we've had snow for almost 5 months straight. Summer is nice up here - all 30 days of it. For me, I can deal with the winter, complaining of course. It's when winter drags on for 5 months. I grew up in NM - thinking that March and April were springtime - here, you can even consider planting things until May.

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

I am so glad to see y'all are posting! After hearing about the terrible ice storms, I am so glad y'all are safe!!!!! Supposed to go below freezing here tonight, tomorrow night, and down to 23 on Wednesday night! My poor 'maters are shivering under cover again outside...

Praying for everyone's continued safety.

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

notmartha,
Same scenario here! Friday morning it was 31; ok, I can take that! But by 7:30 am it was raining and then went from sleet to 2 or 3 inches of snow. And we are expecting down to 29 degrees through til Tue. Ugh! I need a greenhouse.

Lupy,
You and me both! brrr . . I am back up temporarily on my computer but pressed the envelope with the computer company and am getting a new motherboard out of them. Have pounded on this one for nine months so am happy we'll have a brand new one. But that should be here by Monday and then I will be down awhile again to install it chasing on the heels of my trip with my daughters. So I won't be on much in April. Somewhere in between all that, hope to be working with the little darlings (seedlings).
Thankfully, Lupy, I didn't put out the plant material you mailed me so it is safe in the garage until better weather.

Did lose a few plants but it will be ok.

Tim & Amy are having snow and ice today. Amy's grandad passed away last night in upstate NY after returning from FL and they are having difficulty just trying to get up there to the service. He had been quite ill and they moved him home to NY from FL at his request, but now the family is trying to get together and the weather is not helping. Is anybody having Spring?

Cullman, AL(Zone 7a)

I am! Worked all day out in my garden. Set out wildflower purchases from a local wildflower sale and two flats of impatiens and moved some things around(imagine that). It was in the 70's today with a "warm front" predicted to come thru tomorrow with storms and possible tornados tomorrow night and Monday. So, I guess we must pay a price for the beautiful weather here in "tornado alley". I have been "dying" to get out into the garden. I can only imagine how you all must feel still dealing with snow and ice :(
Hang in there!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Not a great shot, but look what we got last night around midnight...Hail. For a good 5 minutes, we had hail the size of big marbles pinging on the house, patio and windows. By the time I got the camera, this is all that was left of them.

We had spring here for a couple of days 10 days ago, got up to 75, then bam cold windy nasty. Maybe up to 50 in daytime with lots of wind. Freezing at night. Froze my apricot blooms again!!! Have three plant orders waiting for me to plant whenever weather gets warm enough. Not as bad as some of you people's weather tho. Supposed to start to warm up this week. Donna

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

My in-laws in upstate New York just sent picture of a tree that came down and through the roof of their motor home. Ice storms are something we get in the south fairly often, but not usually this late. It has one BIG downside. So many of the folks living here have cut down their big trees or at least topped them so severly that they die anyway. Does anyone remember the old day before air conditioning when large shade trees were valued?

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Don't EVEN get me started on topping off trees. We just shake our heads when we see them massacred that way. *grumble* That ought to be your first question when talking to people wanting to do tree work for you: Do you top trees? If they say yes, run. Very fast.

St. Thomas, ON(Zone 5b)

More Snow on the way today and high winds, everyone is very worried about the trees as they are still loaded with ice. It's suppose to arrive late this afternoon. This surley has to be the last storm don't you think??????

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

I sure hope so!!! We are in its path again here! They say sunshine and 50 by wed. I cant wait!

I listened to the ice falling from the trees everytime the sun popped out for a few minutes, just long enough to warm it and losen some ice-it sounded like big booms! it was fun to watch and listen too-I was in the nice warm GH painting pots with the little boys. :)

I sure hope this is the last of old man winter-we got more winter weather in april than in Feb! lol

Penfield, NY(Zone 6a)

notmartha, hope you have survived this awful weather. It is freezing here today. Attempts to clear away all the broken tree limbs proved futile as they are frozen together in big heaps. One advantage, is perhaps I'll have more light in the yard. Whoever built this house, planted evergreen trees and large maples all along the Southern property line. Duh! The trees are now 60 feet tall all up into the power lines and block the sun. The property line on the North had nothing when I moved in and no power lines above. Go figure.

Why would we live in the North? Many people have families. They've always lived here. I only have one son here. No other relatives. But he maximizes life here. Snomobiles all winter even if he has to drive to Adirondacks, then boats all summer on our beautiful Fingerlakes or Lake Ontario. We don't have any poisonous snakes here. No chiggers that I have every run into. Ticks are in the woods I suppose but not like down south. Of course, everyone has mozzies even Alaska has huge ones. We get few tornadoes but no life threatening earthquakes. So there are advantages. And when Spring does finally come, our spirits soar. It's coming soon.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

Real nice day here today.LOL 9:30 AM & trying to decide if I should try to make it to town to do my Monday morning Legion business. All schools are closed here. Fairmont, 25 miles south had 8" of snow at 8 AM. Sure hope it is the last of this junk! THINK SPRING!!!!

Trillium_girl I'm with you about enjoying the North, this has been an unusually long winter this year, although years ago this was normal ( before Global Warming). I do enjoy going South but I love the Whole of New York State we did the Trip with our boat starting, (after crossing Lake Erie) At the Buffalo Yacht Club we did the Erie Barge Canal then into the Hudson River it's a very Beautiful State. We went all the way to Florida on our boat. The late spring prior to our boat trip we spent three days in New York City and had a wonderful time then we went to the finger lakes I think it was Sinacea(SP) stayed in a B&B called Bountiful Blessings, I can't remember the womans name that owns it but what a pleasant home and we were made to feel so welcome. We toured all over and did some Wine tasting and still have some wine left that we bought from there. Now I know why Frank Sinatra sang about NY so much and many others. I feel the same about the province I live in I guess we have a lot in common for beauty and nice people. I guess no matter where you go you'll find wonderful people which adds to the beauty of where they live, because it gives you nice warm memories. I kept a journal on the boat and should have kept one for land trips as well because you forget names or at least I do.
