Old scam made new :P

Clarksville, TN(Zone 6b)

I can't believe this old scam is making it's way around the net again! I guess the scam artists must get enough victims to make it profitable... sick!

Now I thought I was the only one that received that eamil. I wonder if any one really falls for that?

I have received three or four of those over the past year. It's hard to believe they're still making the rounds -- someone must be falling for it, eh?

Hey, that sounds like all the information Gardenwife asked from us !!! LOL

I just wonder when GW is going to "TELL YOU WHERE THE FUNDS ARE
> CURRENTLY BEING MAINTAINED AND ALSO DISCUSS OTHER
> MODALITIES INCLUDING RENUMERATIONS FOR OUR
> SERVICES."

I'm waiting for my BIG bucks ! LOL :O)

You goofball! That thing made the rounds via fax before the Internet was invented by Al Gore. ;)

I wrote about a funny spam I got the other day; the subject line is all I quoted. It was enough. http://gardenwife.com/blog/archive/2003_03_16_archive.phtml#90902416

I've gotten that about 500 hundred times from different people... It is fun to say them "oh please tell me more I'm so interested plz thx byebye", muahahah, then they answer and send pics etc.

Idiots ;)

Evert, that's amazing, I've never known anyone who followed up -- so they even send photos! Sheesh. When I received the first e-mail from them, I called the FBI and they directed me to fax the letter to the Secret Service. The Secret Service agent said that the scammers seem to target specific areas of the globe with that e-mail, then another region, then another...as GW says, it's been going on for years.

Unfortunately people fall for this kind of scam, reply, are contacted and asked for bank account numbers "so that funds can be transfered to your account" and what happens is that the next thing they know is their bank account has been drained dry. Everybody wants something for nothing, and unfortunately people have found ways to get it from unsuspecting victims.

Mobutu Sese~Seko, one of the great tyrants in the history of the African continent, stole untold billions of dollars from his country, Zaire, now called Congo again. The reign of terror lasted for decades.

When this sad country was under Belgian rule (19th until early 20thcentury), it was the personal domain of King Leopold and was, essentially, a nation~sized forced labor camp for his personal enrichment (gold, diamonds, etc.).

Sese~Seko pretty much replicated the regime of the Belgian king.

The family of Sese~Seko in exile (most of whom live in southern France), has access to most of the huge fortune accumulated by this now~dead tyrant. I sincerely doubt they are in difficult financial straits.

This is a link to a short biographyof this fellow:

Unfortunately, as often happens in Africa, the new guys in power are not an improvement over the old.

Do you know what Sese-Seko means in Finnish.. Se = it, and seko = crazy = Itit-Crazy... (just a literal translation of course) :}

This type of thing seems to target me with astonishing frequency, considering that I don't surf a lot and don't use chat rooms. I am always surprised and disgusted to read the pitch and realize that people actually fall for it. Lately, some things of this type have arrived under names of people I recognize, so I have opened them thinking they came from friends. Just today I received something from "Dave", complete with the quotes, and another from Liz. The subject line didn't ring true, so I deleted them unopened. It makes me uneasy, annoys me and just plain irks me at times. Human greed knows no limits, human gullibility feeds it.

I must get about 10-15 of these a week at work. It is absolutely crazy. The other day, I was in a fiesty mood, so I sent back an e-mail and said "send me the money" he responded and gave me more information, and told me his lawyer would contact me, so I just sent another e-mail and said "send me the money" Didnt get another reply.

Once, I wrote back and said "do you really think we are so stupid that we would actually believe you?" did not hear back from that one. I wish they would stop. they waste an awful lot of space, and it is aggravating to boot.
