Question for Paul

Cullman, AL(Zone 7a)

You mentioned on hedandan's post that you record your own high and low temperatures in your garden. Have you manually gathered that information or is there an instrument that will automatically record it. I would like to have this information but am not at home during the day to read a thermometer. I have looked for something like that but haven't found anything yet. Even if this instrument exists it's cost may be out of my reach. Doris

Doris, I'm not Paul but here's a link that should help you if you want general info for your area: http://www.srh.noaa.gov/hun/climate/index.html One of the links on this page will take you to some month-by-month daily min/max info.

An inexpensive min/max thermometer can be purchased for as little as $10 or $15 at WalMart (maybe even cheaper, but I think mine, which is an indoor and outdoor type, cost around $15.) Look in the section where they have outdoor thermometers; mine has a probe that goes outside, while the thermometer stays inside the GH.

You just have to remember to re-set it each day if you're taking your own recordings. (More sophisticated - and expensive - models will store several days' records in an electronic log :)

Terry hit the nail on the head.
I use a min/max thermometer, I usually just watch the lows.

Terry & Paul, thanks for your help. I thought I looked at WalMart, guess I was just in the wrong department! I don't do very well out of the gardenshop :) Doris
