Hi,
I have a problem, I just saw bees go into my roof area through a slit in the wood that leads to the attic. I am pretty aware, and we have been working in this area just last week. We have been deludged with rain here, so I have not noticed them. They are outside my office window area (second story) I look out this window when I am on the computer, which was 2 days ago. Didn't see them then. Only a few (a dozen) or so milling about, not protective, so I think they are just getting started. How can I nicely ask them to leave without incurring a world of debt or hurt? Any suggestions?
Oh No! just saw bees go in roof
Jul...do you know if they are honey bees or carpenter bees? We have carpenter bees that drill holes in any and all wood on the house. Perhaps you could smoke them out and then close up the opening somshow. Good luck.
Ginger
Ginger,
Unfortunately they are honey bees. Last night we sprayed non-toxic wasp killer in that area. I do not see any bees this morning. We need to seal up that place. Seems that we had some rain damage on some old wood. (we are still working on getting all of the problem areas fixed since we bought the house) I will be patroling the eves etc with more vigilance. We had the problem with Carpenter Bees last year. They were nesting in our front steps. We could not get to the front door. We had to find and seal up the holes, then remove the boards and put new steps up. We have had to stop them every year. Tell me what you mean about "smoking them out"? sounds like a good idea. Thanks for your help. Jul
Bee keepers use a device that blows smoke on the bees..now that I think about it the smoke may just calm them so the hives can be worked with. Do you know if anyone has hives in your area? they might be willing to give you a hand with the problem.
Ginger,
What a good idea!!!! I would not have thought of that. Thanks so much.... If they return (they'd better not try) I will do that.
Thanks, Jul
