Anybody collect stamp-flowers?

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

Philately is a dying hobby nowadays. I still collect stamps even now, though. But not with the old child-like enthusiasm. My friends give them now and again. I have made an album and Flowers are an important theme, besides animals, sports, etc. Here is a page of my small album.

Dinu, I have a small collection. Mostly animals, some flowers and a few other pages that have caught my eye. Yours are really nice!

Dinu, nice flower stamps. I collected stamps and first day covers for many years. Ran out of room to store the albums. Now I would like to sell them, may try Ebay. Nice picture. Donna (rutholive)

I am collecting these, along with numerous things, for my grandchildren. I know they don't care about them now, and maybe they will be like my own children and never catch the collecting bug, but I like to think they might at least enjoy something of my largesse. I particularly like the flowers because gardening is something my granddarling and I share. But I confess to having quite a few stamps needing to be mounted and of many different series. The ones from states, animals, bats and other striking ones are always latched onto immediately when I see them. And I always try to save enough of a design to allow for trading if one of the recipients chooses to expand the collection.

Evert, I try to get the postmarks with the stamps I cut from mail, so they are more easily identified by someone who sees them years later. Often, the postmark is not easily read, especially when the design of the stamp is "busy". Are you collecting yours by this method, or are you asking people to get the postmark from their post office as a separate item? Is the focus of this collection to show the different sources of your incoming mail or to show different styles of postmarks? Lastly, should I send you postmarks, current or older?

One of mine is from Sanitorium, Texas. This is actually on most maps, and is the name of a place. The first postmark I collected from there was dated some time in the late 1940s, found on a piece of mail from a tuberculosis patient who was receiving treatment in the sanitorium there. So there is no mystery about how the post office received its name.

Here you must ask for the clerk to cancel the stamp in the post office if you want your "own" postmark on it, otherwise the letter will be stamped in the Mail sorting centre. I like the postmarks, even if there is no stamp.. :}

Evert, I think I sent you some of my old ones, and hoped the postmark would be preserved as some were from the 1940s. So I am happy to know you have this interest. It means you probably saved them intact, instead of trimming them or soaking them off of their backing. I will keep my eyes open for more postmarks, and will try to get different ones for you.

I doubt that my livewire offspring and grandoffspring will ever have any interest in these "boring" interests of mine, but I save things for them just in case. I have been trying to collect all of the state stamps to go with the state quarters, which I have fallen back on. I wanted to have two of each of the quarters so I would have both mint marks. And I thought it would be nice to have all of the state stamps with a specimen postmark from each state capital. Of course, one thing always seems to lead me to another.

Yes, I didn't soak the stamps off.
