Hey ,does anyone live near the track. We have tickets for the race on April 6th,and I could use some advice on what and where.....

I've printed a ton of maps and campsites but I figure someone from around there can give me better advice.....

advice: plan an extra day and let's meet up!!!

Allen Park, MI(Zone 6a)

What kind of information r u looking for.
I used to go down there when the race was in July.
I stayed in a town called Childersburg about 10 miles away from the track.
My seats were in the Birhingham grandstand, right at the start/finish line.

I miss Alabamba in July, 90 + degrees 90%+ humidity

Tig,we are thinking on leaving here on Thursday AM,not sure if we will drive straight thru or stop somewhere and get an early start Friday ,then I have part day Friday and Saturday

Chuck already told me this trip is NOT plant related...but what does he know....LOL

I kinda want to know where NOT to stay,we plan on camping with a tent,is it best just to stay at the track?,it says they expanded their facilities but since I've never been there I don't know if thats a good thing or not...LOL

the campgrounds that came up in a search are
Cheaha state park
Desoto State Park
Logans Landing
Shady Oaks

Allen Park, MI(Zone 6a)

Personnaly I would stay at one of the parks.
Theres a campground at DeSoto caverns but I've never stayed there.
Be sure and see the Hall of Fame right next to the track.
Theres some great Bar-B-Que places to eat in the area

Are the campgrounds AT talladega a good place to stay, don't really want to fight traffic?
Has anyone stayed there?

IM SO JEALOUS!

DeSoto State Park is gorgeous. I've not camped there, but I can't imagine you could go wrong. Oak Mountain is south of Birmingham and it's also beautiful.

I can't find anything to tell me how far from the track it is......

Allen Park, MI(Zone 6a)

Desoto caverns is kind of the back way out of the track.
Most people jump on I-20 which is right up the road. I went out the back roads and was back at the motel in 20-30 minutes after the race.
I would stay away from the freeway on race Sunday.
Write down there and get a county map from the road commission.
I had one but I couldn't find it for you.

FYI no beer is sold at the track on Sundays, make sure you're supplied on Saturday

Nothing at nascar.com that I can find. They have a travel link, but it is for airlines. Must be some site with the info.
