Spring photo ops!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I've been watching my daffodils sending up foliage, and I know the blooms can't be far behind. The maple and forsythia buds are swollen, and the broadleaf weeds are making their spring debut.

Which means three things:

1. Spring is coming!!!!

and

2. We need to put down pre-emergent

and.....

3. It's time to get those cameras out!

As spring comes to our zones, let's be sure to take advantage of the photo oppportunities for the Plants Database.

Then next winter, we can console ourselves with beautiful images of bulbs in their glory...trees and shrubs ready to leaf out...and we'll even know the names of those dratted weeds ;o)

Been skulking around the fence rows already vols.Lemon balm is up along with some shoots for purple coneflower.Got some daffs that will bloom this weekend.Don't know where my crocus are...haven't seen the first sign.Moles may have got them.
Anyway folks, here's one from last year.Vols is right...get those cameras ready.

Take a look at my iris reticulata in the photo forum. The yellow ones and some new ones, I think they will be orange, buff and yellow have yet to bloom but they are up.

It's also a great opportunity to catch those perennials coming up after a long winter's sleep. Adding 'shots of the shoots' to the PDB can often be helpful in spring identification (Where did those labels go?). I just took some shots of my perennials I wintered over in pots, as well as those in the beds. They are just coming out of the ice and snow... about a month early, I might add!

Sue, all this needs is your picture - and a comment, if you'd like to add one: http://plantsdatabase.com/go/55290/

Oh, that is a beautiful combination! What type of violas are those?

Nothing coming up here yet :P

Here in Rochester, we dream of spring. This is a pic from last summer. I planted Heavenly blue to compliment the birdhouse but this year plan on cardinal vine to entice the hummers.

And....Here's a house plant that I divided and put in the flower bed. It loved it and bloomed profusely. It is a streptacarpus. Is much like an african violet but much showier and tougher.
go_vols, I lived in Nashville for 8 years as a teenager. Gardening was not one of my pastimes then.

go_vols: I think the violas in Kell's wonderful picture are Ultima Morpho. http://plantsdatabase.com/go/52962/ I grew these last year and they are beautiful... each one a bit different.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Gee I don't know the name. I picked them to match my blue pots. I just love them. They all came up a little different.
