Sounds like the problem is in the "referer" field that your browser normally would send to a website. Here's our stock answer when someone has this problem:

Some firewall and anti-virus software (for no good reason) disable the referers in your browser, and this can only be enabled through the firewall or anti-virus software.

Dave's Garden and the Plants Database require referers in order for you to view pictures. This is to protect the copyright on the images that our members upload in good faith to the site.

Referers are used to prevent thieves from stealing the images. It doesn't work 100%, but it's far more than any other site does.

Directions to enable referrers in Norton and Zone Alarm are shown below. If you are using a different product, please consult your product's documentation to enable the referrers.

Norton Internet Security

* Open Norton Internet Security.
* Click "Options".
* Click "Internet Security".
* Click the "Advanced Options" button.
* Click the "Privacy" tab.
* Change Referrer (under Browsing Privacy) to "Permit"
* Click "OK".
* Click "OK" again.
* Close Norton Internet Security and the pictures should show up.

Zone Alarm

* Open the Zone Alarm configuration panel by double clicking on the Zone Alarm icon on the bottom right of your Windows Taskbar, or by opening Zone Alarm from the "Start" and "Programs" menu.
* Select the "Privacy" menu on the left hand side.
* Click on the button labelled "Custom", in the "Cookie Control" section.
* Remove the tick from "Remove Private Header Information".
* Click "OK", then close the Zone Alarm configuration panel. The pictures should work fine now.

GV why only that thread?I have posted just after to Staceys thread,have no problem viewing or posting anywhere else here?

rootdoctor, I dunno - I just double-checked the post - I can see the photo, and I posted a followup. When this problem occurs, it's usually more widespread than one photo, and it's generally a firewall setting.

It doesn't sound like Root wasn't able to view the photo - that's the usual problem the referrer thing brings up. Wonder what it could be, then?

No GW,I can't see it on the thread,I can see all other photos here,even the one at the start of that thread,just when I go to the first post on it,I see a box where pic should be,if I click on the X in the box,it kicks me to my home page,or if I try to post there,I get a blank page except for the menu items you are seeing now to the right.
Weird!

That is weird...So, it's as if it's not there. Sort of like if you click a thread that's no longer there (like when a page is from your cache and not current) and it pops you back to the welcome page?

Have you cleared your temporary internet files and rebooted, by chance? If you right-click on the hyperlink for the picture instead of left clicking, and select "properties" you should be able to see the URL for the picture. Just out of curiosity, try jotting down that URL, opening a separate window, and typing it in the address bar, or posting the URL here. Wonder if there's any way the URL for the picture is corrupted on what you're seeing.

Hi, I ran in to the same problem when I installed McAfee Internet Security Suite. I opened Privacy Service, then under "I want to..." I clicked on "erase revealing information", then un-checked the box in Referer Sharing and clicked "apply". All better!
