The Street Where You Live

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

To me it is phenomenal that so many streets around the world include a reference to nature, i.e., plants, trees, flowers. When ever I do a trade it astounds me that the individuals street address is Poplar Lane, Rose Avenue and many others.
We live on "Till"man avenue and before it was named that it was Har"wood".
What is your street?

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Stone Street.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I love sending seeds/plants to gardening addresses! mine has nothing to do with such, Welcome to Sargent Rd, used to be two tiny villages and this is the road that runs between them. They finally dropped the 'to' in the st name.

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

Coon Dr. for me..LOL

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

The place we live in is calle Pihlajarinne, it means Rowan Hill. We have lots of streets with tree names in here, for example, Aspen Lane, Rowan Street, Maple Leaf, Maple Meadow Street, Maple Lane, Rowanberry Street, Goat Willow Lane, Willow Lane, Rowan alley etc. I live in Ollaksentie, and it doesn't mean anything.. Stupid. I'd like to live on a tree street ;)

And oh yes, of course all the street names also have a Swedish name here.

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

See what I mean, now Evert Ollaksentie must mean something!

I almost forgot that acreage that we are gonna plow ourselves back to tomorrow morn at End of "Earth" Road. We are told the snow is 4' deep at the beginning of the road. Yikes work cut out for us!

And Coon is part of nature LOL!

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Sure is..............and I'm gonna stone that coon if he don't stay out of the trash!

"eyes"

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

No, it doesn't. Like Espoo or Helsinki, they don't just mean anything either. Ollas is a place name, and tie means street. It's like Ollas's Street. :P

Crossville, TN

My wee "street" (little dirt road cut by my son in law), is named East Old Raven Walk....named by my DD when the name that SIL had gone to the court house to register was taken. Weedwalker looked out the window and saw a raven walking down the newly created road....thus East Old Raven Walk!! I wish she had named it something a little shorter..Like Coon Dr. LOL Jo

Lappeenranta, Finland(Zone 3a)

I live on Pikkalankatu and Jahvetinkatu.......that`s crossroads.......pretty fun:) some of our mail come Pikkalankatu`s addres and some of them come the other addres......
here is Ainonkatu (Ainosstreet)........Aino is typical Finnish name............what should I do that they would name Mitjos-street....

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

RR how did he determine it was an "Old" Raven LOL!
Mitjo - how in the world do you keep track of how to spell the names of your streets LOL! I would personally have to move!

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Mitjo, that's unfair, I want two addresses too >:( Do streets have Swedish names there as well? We have so stupid address and postcode.. :P If our address would be for example Rowantree Street (Pihlajapuuntie), it would be all different in Swedish, Rφnntrδdsvδgen. It would be like having two addresses :} But Ollaksentie is Ollasvδgen in Swedish - No much difference.

We have the famous Kuninkaantie (King's Road) about 50 metres from us http://www.kuninkaantie.net/eng/eng.html

St. Louis, MO(Zone 6b)

Thank God you don't live in Japan. In many cities the address is more a description of where the building is located. Street names may change within several blocks and house numbers are more likely to be the sequence in which the buildings were built rather than their location along the street. Some addresses can be six to eight lines long.

Evert, you have mail

Lappeenranta, Finland(Zone 3a)

Haighr=)
I don`t know why I have always used Jahvetinkatu.......and never Pikkalankatu.............it could be some joke but I have heard that in our street have lived some famous artist..........
haa! here is not swedish name streets........much or at all.........at least I haven`t seen those...

cool! website for the street......
maybe I should make Jahvetinkatu website.

ps: if I base Botanicalgarden in here maybe then I got Mitjo`s-street......

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

All the streets around us are tree streets, we have DOUGLAS FIR ST., JUNIPER LANE, PONDEROSE PINE, AND THERE'S 6TH CIRCLE.....we live on 6th circle....But when we were buying the house, I thought it was so cool that I would be living on a tree street, since I sell trees (well...dead ones anyway - lumber - lol)I was pretty dissapointed when I realized we were on a number street.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

I see. Maybe Lappeenranta isn't a bi-lingual city. Although it has got a Swedish name (Villmanstrand).

Well, Kuninkaantie was an important road, it connected Turku (and Stockholm) and St. Petersburg (I think?).

:] Ollaksentie is one of the oldest streets in this densely built-up area. Our yard was a part of our neighbors yard long time ago, their house is very old, but it was just renovated again. There has even been a well in our yard somewhere, but it has been buried (too bad), and we don't even know where it has been.

Our house is pretty far away from Ollaksentie, it's about 70 metres to our mailbox from the front-door I think.

We don't have any number streets in Finland.

Lappeenranta, Finland(Zone 3a)

maybe.........we read Swedish here for nothing! probably we will not need that ever......Russian would be much better in here.........even I don`t want read that......really not! that so hard!

ςH, that is big street.........
I`d want that kind of mailbox than one house where I delivery papers.........mail comes over wall right to hall.

In Ohio, one of the streets we lived on was Forestdale and another one really fit with December. It was St. Nicholas.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Yep. Think if I had studied French from the 4th graden instead of Swedish. Think how much better it would've been, French is a world language, Swedish isn't. So stupid. You Canadians, be happy..

Fountain, FL(Zone 8a)

I live on Two Trail Rd. one of several here in Fountain...glad we have a P.O. box instead of a mailbox.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Here people very rarely have PO Boxes, it is expensive to have one, and I'm not sure do they have those in all post offices. I'm glad we have a mailbox, don't have to pick up the mail from PO :}

Memphis, TN

Moss valley here and did live on Ivy Dr. as a child

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

Our county is probably last in the country to change to street names & numbers. We even have a house number now.
UPS & speedy & truckers can finally find us. We are not to classy here either, just got a number, 800th Ave. We came from northern MN 21 years ago, they changed to street addresses many years ago. The farm I grew up on is on Church Road SE. Road is only about 1½ miles long but has a country church at the beginning. I have cousin in Brainerd whose address is Easy Street! DD's Address is # - North 3rd ave East. Her town is really mixed up. When you come into town you have to go west to her house!
Still lost, LOL

Bowie, AZ(Zone 8B)

I like our road (street)- it is "Apache Pass Road"....Named, of course, after the Apache Indian tribe.
And our county is "Cochise" named after the well-known
Indian Chief. But due to the remote area we have a post office box and pick up our mail at the post office. No charge for the boxes, Evert.

Northport, ME(Zone 5b)

I live on Bayside road, but I paid to have a road put in to my camp up in the county. So I named it, "Buttcrack Road" made signs for it too. Frank.

Northport, ME(Zone 5b)

A very nice sign that says "Foolishness" with an arrow, points to the out-house.

Dover, NH(Zone 5a)

Frank...ROTFL! I once lived on Cedar Street. :)

Edited to add street name...was giggling too much about Frankay's entry and I forgot to type it in...

LOl Frank! Good thing you're not in charge of naming all the streets in your town! When I started at the PO I had to memorize all the carrier routes in the city of Portland... what streets went to what carriers. It's amazing all the streets that are named after trees, plants, fields and hills. To memorize them it helps to make up little stories in your head about the names and relating them to the carrier they belong too. Knowing a bit about the plants their named after helps for some creative stories!!

My street is Fairlawn :)

Santa Clara, CA(Zone 9a)

Our street is Los Padres ("the fathers" in spanish). Our city is considered a official tree city and if you have a tree in your front yard you just can't take it down without permission (of course, they also give away thousands of trees each year) and I just love all the trees.

Evert and Mitjo, I just love hearing about your world compared to ours and love when you send links so I can see more information. Thanks

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

I've got plain old Murray Highway. The highway goes to the town of Murray. It used to be the main road and had lots of traffic, but there's a new 4 lane just over the hill and everyone uses it now. Our driveway is off of Murray Highway, but we own 4 acres on a corner and that road is called Sid Darnell.Named after a resident on that road. The next road over is called Union Hill..named after a Civil War encampment on the hill.

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

We live on Mount Prospect Road. Not too exciting here!! It doesn't even go into the town of Mount Prospect (the next town over from me), just goes along the eastern border for about a mile, and then continues into Des Plaines.

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

Mine is "Rock"mart Rd does that count?? Here in Atlanta we have tons of street named "Peachtree"
Mabe tiG can help me out on this one...how many streets in Atlanta are called "Peachtree"

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Molly, 37,648. :) I'd bet! LOL!!

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

awww you remembered one more than I did....I was going to guess 37,647 LOL No really there is ALOT of them huh?!!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Just got back home from Reno and started reading the messages. DG must be addictive, I sure missed coming into the computer room and reading all the messages. I live on Lakeview Dr. There are three home on this little lane, we the first two named the road Lakeview because we have a view of a nearby lake. I paid the county for a sign down at the county road. Donna

Cambria, CA(Zone 10a)

Cliff Drive - appropriately enough. I live in the brown house mid-photo.

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

I've lived on Forest Hill, Lake Road, Poplar Street & Vista Oaks :) The weirdest one was Feedwire Road. Go figure on how that became a street name. But, Possum Road runs right off of it :)

Lappeenranta, Finland(Zone 3a)

I dont know why Swedish doesn`t want €€€€........krona is not so big currency,.........and Norway too.........they have oil but that`s not permanent.......and when it`s gone......******..........Dollar was the BIGGEST currency before but now €uro is one competitor.......that`s kinda cool.......belong one of the Biggest curency in the world...........
hmm......how this belong " The Street Where You Live" convercation? hehehh.....

my dad have P.O mailbox......in postoffice.

Camilla, GA(Zone 8a)
