First Trade - For What?

We have all become such a close family here at DG. I am just wondering who it was that everyone made their first trade/exchange with.
Mine was a long time ago with Zany who graciously sent me hens n chicks from CA. I was so excited to open the package that day (and I get a lot of packages shopping with catalogs only).
Those hens n chicks are an inspiration every time I see them in my rock garden because I am always reminded of the generous heart that sent them my way. For days and weeks I kept telling everyone about the plants I received and everyone just thought how awesome it is to be able to trade like that with people you have never met.
DG is such a wonderful place!

my first trade with was stormy19 for brugs (what else:) and Zany was not too far behind that. I can't believe all the wonderful friends I see when I walk around outside. Some I've lost touch with, but I still think fondly of them everytime I see their lovely gifts.

My first one was with "deblynn" and I just marvel at the large distance those lovely seeds did travel...Our trade originated in a garden in USA: DG's and the seeds travelled from Denmark to Chile and vice-versa.

Soon after got a trade from MO- USA...

After that many, many friends has given me the oportunity to enjoy lovely flowers and vegies and...and...and...

I always send them my best wishes, cause they've given a lot of themselves trading with someone living so far!!!!!!!

My first was from Karmahappytoes who is no longer among us. She thrilled me with a lovely columbine.

haighr I had no idea I was your first! How wonderful a spot to be! I sent those Chicks and Hens out to over 30 states! And when we moved I made sure to bring a few along in a pot!

mine was with DAVE! :)back then it was for SEEDS!

My first was with KayJones, a very generous trader. She sent lots of things. All the bulbs she sent are coming up gangbusters right now. I can hardly wait to see them bloom!

Believe it or not - my first trade was with Evert, our young friend in Finland. I sent him some Morning Glory seeds and he had mailed me some of the seeds he gathered from his Rhodochiton atrosanguineum. I hope they clear customs inspection. I have received seeds from many other members, but as response to sase, not as trade. He should receive mine in time for his 15th birthday (soon) :)

Hey Dori.... that's cause way back in the Day, You, Dave, Trish and GL (maybe a couple more) were the only member's!!!! hehe

Yep, you were the first Zany, then I had a dracuncula trade with Dimitri in Greece.
DG has given us such a great opportunity to "travel" and "trade" in such exotic faraway places.

I've been the first one for a couple of others too, but they haven't been from DG.

I had my first trade when I was still in Gardenweb, either with a lady in FL, or a man in TX, not sure which.

I can't remember who my first trade was with, but was overwhelmed when I got my first return. It was a parcel full of goodies, the guy said that he had been given some when he first started ,and didn't have much to trade with himself,so he was now passing that on to someone else. I made sure that I did the same too as I collected more stuff.It sort of makes a chain ,if you get my meaning, someone gets you off to a good start ,then you pass it on when you're in a position to do so.
It's been fantastic fun, especially the R.R's which some people work so hard to arrange.I've gotten hold of seeds that I could only dream of,made friends too in the process.

My first trade was with Karen7 - She was so generous with her blanet flower seeds, and by the way, they are germinating as we speak, thank you!

I can't say for sure who was the very first, but it was either Windsurfer or Poppysue. They were for seeds. Can't remember who it was regarding plants...probably through the secret trades.

In the beginning, I didn't know what a trade was! I thought money was involved in trading. But the experience of viewing a number of threads convinced me that it meant *seed exchange*. In other words, BARTER. I feel this is a more closer word to what we do here on DG.

So, I thought of trading. I wrote to EVERT (e-mail) and selected a few seeds from his list. He wanted my Clitoria double blue. The joy of receiving a packet from him is inexplicable! Another 20 or so trades have followed. But I can never forget the first one, though some seeds failed to germinate, except for 4 O'clock (seeds he had collected from India when he visited Goa and they came back to India!!) and a freesia which is yet to flower (one of the 8 bulbs that survived).

my first trade was with emlym for some four o'clock seeds. that was 2 yrs ago now.

I wonder how many tons of seeds and plants have been generated through DG, sounds like a lot so far!

First trade off DG? Prior to becoming a member it was a chap called Mike, after I signed up I'm pretty sure it was Poppysue and Kathleen.

I'm almost certain it was Poppysue :) She was SOOOO generous, too! She hoped that I would some day be able to share seeds with newbies :)

Her garden & landscaping pictures constantly give me hope and inspiration... Thanks, Poppysue!

I think cosmos seeds.

My very first was with Notmartha when we were both members of a garden club a few years ago. She sent me cleome seeds that produced gorgeous flowers. Thanks, Dori!
