Northern Hemisphere Hoodie-Hoo Day

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

When : February 20

On this winter day, people go out at noon, wave their hands over their heads and chant "Hoodie-Hoo".

It is a day to chase away winter and bring in spring. After all, everyone in the northern hemisphere are sick and tired of winter at this point and a little crazy being cooped up inside all winter and not seeing the sun.

JUST found this one!!!!;)

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

This is a new one on me!!! Sounds like a good idea tho - does it work???

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

I have to go out at noon everyday and put dayme on the kindergarten bus-this Thursday i will be waving my arms in the air and yelling Hoodie-Hoo!!!!!

Victoria, TX(Zone 9b)

HooDie Hoo!!!

I've told a bunch of people at work, and nobody believes me! They all want to have me put on the nut-truck to the looney farm ..

hooooooodie hooooo!!!

LOL

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

HAH!...that is a common holler in Virginny and NC mountains, but normally used to let people know you're about, so they don't shoot first and ask questions later.
Also used to get someones attention, so I reckon ya'll folks above the Dixon line are using it in a somewhat similar fashion.
I will definitely do this on Thursday but alas, I don't think people will pay me no mind. Hope Winter does tho!

Dover, NH(Zone 5a)

ROTFL! Hope to hear the chants of "Hoodie-Hoo" this Thursday loud and clear! :)

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Glad to know some things don't originate from the south. Bobbie says there is only one day a year that you can pull wild onions from your lawn. On the other days the roots break off and stay in the ground. Some time in Feb. also.

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

Pray tell - Jim - what is that day?? I have tons of them to get rid of!

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

Its coming up again this yr!!!!!!! get ready to make some noise!!!!!!!!

Victoria, TX(Zone 9b)

yeah! Thank you for the reminder .. I'm gonna mark it on my calendar. :)

Jerome, MI(Zone 5b)

Hehehe, me too....Marking it on the refrigerator too...

Cuyahoga Falls, OH(Zone 5a)

Sounds good to me. I'll do it. Of course I will probably be standing in 8 feet of snow. It just keeps on falling !

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Well, if Indians can dance for rain, I guess we can "hoodie doo" for spring! lol!

Verona, ON

Heavens, I'd "hoodie doo" in the nude if it would help spring come. Just cover your eyes folks and let me hoodie doo to my heart's content. Can't wait for Feb. 20!!

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

(Whoops. You mean we're spose to have clothes on to begin with?) :>( (I musta made a mistake.)

Holland, MI(Zone 6a)

My little doggie woofs a "hoodie doo" every time she goes out on the snow covered deck to her doodie doo. She and I are eager for spring.

HOOOODIE HOOOOOOOOO

Verona, ON

It was me, my 2 dogs and even my DH out there roaring away that your heard. Hoodie HOOO!!!!!! It's snowing here. D.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I smell a rat. Or at least a strong whiff of southern deja vu, cuz didn't Gomer Pyle yell "hoodie hoo" when he was imitating a hoot owl? (Or am I the only one who saw that particular episode????)

Verona, ON

It didn't work. Boo! I am so upset, we are in the midst of a terrible storm. I even got my beloved DH out there hooting his head off at midday - the only thing that answered were coyotes. I should have known a storm was coming. Still I've marked it on the calendar for next year and still will hoot my lungs out. Maybe Gomer will join us in 2005. D

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

i'm so hoarse i can hardly talk. I hoodie-hooed so long and loud they sent dumptrucks of topsoil to the cemetary...apparently folks were spinning in their graves causing an uproar.

ugh...I need a drink, something to massage my epiglottis or whatever is left of it.

(ps...it was 70 degrees here today!) :>)

Verona, ON

Oh boo on your weather Shoe! Heavens 70 degrees is summer here - forget about spring. It is now freezing rain with snow mixed in. Got a couple of those blue soda my DH will gladly drink to ease your esophogus.
Yah Spring is coming! Thanks so much for the thread not martha - I needed that. Just couldn't believe I could get my DH out there with Storm,Quill and myself hollering away. It has indeed been a long, cold winter for that to happen. D

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

Yes this winter has been a long one with lots of snow and cold temps-i sure hope the snow melts soon! Cuz i have about had it with the cold and snow!!
I use to go to wrestling meets when Teig wrestled and that filled the month up a bit-but now that is gone and winters seem twice as long!
The storm missed us-we did get a tad of RAIN!

THINKING SPRING
dori

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

It got somewhere around 45 here, nice and sunny! That feels like spring after so much winter! :)

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

It isn't summer here yet. Yesterday got up to 42 degrees, but down at night to 27. Still snow in the shade and where drifted. Only nice area is in my greenhouse. Donna

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I Hoodie hooed enough that my Robin came back, won't be long now!!Good ole mort the Robin,he always gets snowed on once, then it is spring!!!

Verona, ON

Dorie,
Dh, myself and the dogs had just a delightful time that I think that you should declare this day a National Holiday here on DG. Can you imagine the delightful noise ( not necessarily a choir of angels) that we could all make together? Maybe those who are able to get to the Roundups could actually have a 'choir practce'.D
