I had to do it...

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

I just returned from Wal-Mart, where I bought and paid for 1 bag of potting soil and 1 bag of top soil. It was pouring down rain, so the lady called a guy to come load it in my car. I pulled my car around to where all the bags were and he came running out, I rolled down my window and told him that I needed 1 potting soil and 1 top soil..he loaded it and close the trunk, I hollered Thank you and drove away. Then when I got home and opened the trunk I was very surprised to see that he had put in a hugh bag of Miracle-Gro potting soil!!! I didn't pay for that kind!! I paid for the Wal-Mart brand. So there I was with a 9.00 bag of potting soil when I had only paid for a 2.00 bag!
I came on in the house and told my dh what had happened and he says awww don't worry about it, it's not your fault it's the guys fault that loaded it. Well I couldn't rest until I called Wal-Mart and told them what had happened and told the lady in the Garden Dept that since it was so messy and raining that I would come back up there first thing in the a/m and pay the difference. I had to do it!!! I told dh that IF I kept that bag of soil, that be my luck that everything I planted in it would die! It would haunt me forever!! I know I could have very easily gotton away with it...but I just could't do it!

My DH woulda just skated away,it wouldn't bother him,I on the other hand would tell, just like you.
I once got charged .99 for something that was 9.99 and I told them...
I thought my DH was gunna kill me

You did the right thing....
I was buying an orchid to take to some friends, and just ran in to Trader Joes, and It was like 12-13 dollars, and it rang up as "mini-rose 2.99" I was talking to my husband at the time, and it didnt register till I was getting ready to write the check and realised the amount was way to low...both my husband and I said something at the same time, they had entered the upc code in incorrectly apparently, let me tell you what a frackas it was to change it, and the line was getting longer, and people were getting impatient...but we did the right thing.

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

Yep you did do the right thing Pebble, I think of it like this...you could have been buying a mini rose and it could have rang up the orchid price! Then you would have noticed it as well......and so would all those folks behind you in line, if it had happened to them that way too and they would say something too!

Northport, ME(Zone 5b)

You people are so moral. (That's not an insult) Guess I'll keep listening to what you have to say. I really love DG and everyone else who loves it too. Frank

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I would have done the same thing Mollybee and Pebble. It would haunt me that maybe the poor clerk would maybe have had the difference taken from her paycheck when she is already working for minimum wage.

the he** with paying the differance i would take it right back and make them give me the good stuff. I would not want all those nasty chemicals in my nice organic GH

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

LOL Troy, I guess you are not real crazy about MiracleGro huh? What kind of nasty chemicals are in MiracleGro??

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

Mollybee, I would have did the same thing (already have). The cashier even looked at me like I was nuts to walk back inside and bring the matter to her attention. Good job!

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

Just returned from there and the cashier was so nice about it. She said not too many people would do something like this!! She even called the manager and he Thanked me too! I sure did feel proud of myself when I left there with a hugh smile on my face!

Valrico, FL(Zone 9b)

All of those managers and cashiers are nuts. When you called, they should have just said don't worry about it. It was our error.

We had a goof in our shopping cart system. One customer was shipped 9 of 1 variety when she had ordered 3 of 3 different varieties. She emailed me, I called her back, and we walked through the steps of her order together, and I found the error. It was on our end. I told her I would have the 2 varieties she was missing, out the next ship day, and she asked what she should do about the extras. I told her to enjoy them, and send me pictures when they bloomed. This 18.00 error, has proven in the past, to be very valuable when handled in this manner.

I commend all on their honesty, but really think the managers shouldn't have inconvenieinced anyone by expecting them to drive back. Especially with the cost of gas :-)

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

I too commend all of you who have returned something and made right a mistake. GOD is proud of you too. It's the "too bad for them" attitude that has helped to bring down the morals of this world. I have gone in many times and corrected mistakes. Once I accidentally walked out with groceries and discovered a rather expensive piece of exotic fruit had never been checked because it was under my purse. The clerk was so shocked that I would do that. Other incidences have gotten the same reponse. All thanked me for being honest. It's just the right thing to do. If we are going to say we are Christians then we have to act like JESUS.

been wanted to post this anyway

when you grow things organicly you can not use any chemical fertilizers and that is the only kind in Miracle-Gro
things grown organicly tast better and are better for you .
they might not be as big of pretty and it is a bit more work but i think it is worth it

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

When you are on the other end it means more. I hope my customers will tell me if something is wrong with their purchase. Like someone said about the upc code being wrong, if I as a store owner wasn't told about it imagine how much I lose after a time.
Honesty is always the best policy!

There is an old story of a woman who wanted to hire a housekeeper. She interviewed many and had them each give the house a once-over. She selected the last and said, "congratulation, you've got the job". The new house-keeper said "Is that b

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

:0 Frank you are soo bad! LOL

Northport, ME(Zone 5b)

OK stop it. 10 years ago or so I went to Burger King and ordered about 5 bucks worth of junk at the drive up speaker thing. I drove around and gave the new girl a 20. (I knew she was new cause I go there way to often) She gave back correct change with my 20 on the bottom. I gave it back. I think she still works there.

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

awww see Frank you too are very Moral! LOL You done good!

Brooklet, GA(Zone 8a)

i agree you did right. i try real hard to be honest with things like this. i always feel good for having done so.

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

I knew I liked you when we met a year ago, Molly. You did the right thing and I agree that the store should have said "our error so you don't need to bother coming to pay the difference" I guess Wal-mart doesn't think that it is necessary to reward a person for their honest in that way. But YOU are rewarded by your honesty. HUGS to you, Lani
