NOAA just gave a winter ice storm warning for tomorrow (yeah, Valentine's Day) for Ohio. If you are in the area, listen to the forecasts, and BE CAREFUL!!!!!!
Ice storm predicted for tomorrow
I'm flapping my arms helplessly, hoping a little warm southerly breeze will flutter your way :)
Please be careful - ice storms are no fun! We'll stay tuned and keep you in our thoughts and prayers.
Yes, we here in Indiana (southern) are to get the ice around time to go to work tomorrow! UGH!!! Lou
I posted a picture of the "snow rollers" we have on the photo forum. It is really weird. Lou
Oh no, Dispatcher! Ours is forecast to start mid-afternoon, just getting really bad during evening rush hour. And hopefully people who are planning to spend the evening out will change their plans!!! But at least we got a few hours to get in the emergency rations.
Thanks, G_V. It had been forecast to arrive as flooding rains, but the warmth wasn't quite enough... it is now supposed to come down as ice. Praying for a few more degrees of warmth here.
Good luck to all,Heres a site to help out with seeing if it is close, looks like it is south of here now,

Be Safe.
Root.
It is supposed to be here early morning, 5:30 when we leave for work, getting worse thru the day. 1/4 to 1 inch of ice then 3 to 5 inches of snow. Where is Spring??
Gracious, that sounds miserable. Stay off the roads if you can. How about a little zonal envy....tomorrow should be in the mid 60's and Saturday will be in the 70's. :)
I couldn't help myself, Kathy. :)
And here I am in South-central Alaska wondering where our winter went. It's in the 40's around here, raining, and most of the little bit of snow we got is washed away. The perennials are beginning to wake up and sprout... not good, since we usually have another 2 months of cold weather... so strange! Looks like the midwest got our winter this year.
Wow! I can't believe we're colder than Alaska. Weeze and smiln, please send some warmth this way. We're completely frozen here. -25 now and dropping to -35 before morning and tomorrow will be the same. We've had weeks of this extreme cold. Please be careful everyone if you get that ice storm and prepare for no power.
lupinelover, hope your icestorm doesn't develop too badly. In this immediate area we hardly ever get icestorms. Our winter so far has been just great. We are supposed to receive needed rain over the weekend. Good Luck Donna
Well, we got about 1/2" of ice yesterday afternoon, then it changed to snow, and we got about 5" as of 8 am. Dug it all out the first time, supposed to get another 4-6" by the time it is finished Monday night. Oh well, I didn't plan to go anywhere this weekend anyway :(
Hope everyone else got in emergency supplies!
We only got 2" of snow, 22 degrees, wind very cold. Where was this stuff last summer, when we needed rain so badly?
Ya'll ice storm must be moving our way (NC). The news and weather folks are all in a tizzy with warnings, stock up, get batteries, fuel etc. Supposed to move in sometime this evening and come down all night...will be either sleet or ice (people are hoping for the sleet). (Am still crossing my fingers that the plastic on the ghouse holds up!) Guess I better go fire up the generators just in case I need them, and get some kero.
Wish us luck!
we still have NO snow where i am-just frigid temps! Other parts of mich have lots we just have a few drifts where when it did snow and made snow rollers in ILL it made a few drifts and left bare frozen dead looking ground!!! ugly
So depressing-if its going to be cold i want snow!!!
OR a better idea-SPRING!!!!!

And here I sit in Alaska...birds are chirping outside, the squirrels are out of their nests and frollicking. It's a crazy world, isn't it?
We've had a frog chokin' rain for the last 2 days...water over the roads in places and creeks out of their banks...but at least it isn't white!!! I'm soooo proud..had more of the frozen stuff this year than in the last 6 put together!
Stay safe everyone East of me!
Well, we awoke to 6" of fresh snow on the ground, and in some parts of Newark people counted 8". They're calling for three more snow storms to come through between tonight and Sunday night, each dumping an additional 1-3" on us before it's all over.
I got a call for our church e-mail chain early this afternoon, saying church is cancelled for tomorrow. The step gravel driveway is impassable and can't be plowed or the gravel will all be scraped away; you know it's bad when they cancel church!
Today was like yesterday. 18 below in the morning. Warmed up to 2 above just after noon. Sunny and windy all day. Sorry about any ice storms, we had ours 2 yrs ago. 14 days w/o power. You get warm making firewood. Water gets to be something you have to go get tho.
Good grief, Frankay! That's cold enuff to put shoes on! AND socks!
Aren't you on the coast somewhere? Ya'll get enuff firewood up there for your winters? (I think many people only live in Maine during the "easy" months.)
Shoe, we usually go through 5 cords of wood and about 200 gal of kero in the winter. This winter we have already used 500 gal of kero and are starting on our third cord of wood. Last night it was 28 below zero. Never got above -4 today with the sun out and tonight it's heading to -40. The coldest night so far.
Holy ice cubes! I didn't know it got that far below up there, snowhermit! Hope you don't have to spend too much on wood, or do ya'll go harvest, cut and split it yourselves?
Hope all ya'll folks have warm socks, warm houses, good heat, and lots of chili pots!
We used to cut it ourselves but we're too old and lazy now so we buy it.This hasn't been a normal winter Shoe. We usually get a few days of real cold below zero weather. This year we've had several weeks of steady sub zero temps. Many people have bursting water pipes, shifting foundations, and cars that won't start. There hasn't been this cold a winter up here in many years. I'm ready to head south. :)
6 inches of snow here with more predicted but so far the ice hasn't been too much of a problem - about 1/2 inch. I hope there are no power losses but please be prepared ya'll!! We had a terrible one a couple of year's ago and lost power for 5 days.
Update!! We are socked in - literally. Snow is falling too fast for the VDOT to clear the roads and for the very first time in recorded history - the malls have closed down!! All church services and everything else is cancelled. I went out to feed the birds again and clear some of the snow, just as the ice started to fall. I was only out there ten minutes, cleared some of the snow on the path to the feeders, fed the birds and felt exhausted and couldn't get my breath. I wasn't sensible at all and didn't heed my hubbie's word of warning - he was in the shower and told me to wait and he would do it - but, stubborn me...............!! Be careful out there, it's treacherous.
Oh Margaret!!!!!! Praying you are OK.
I spent most of yesterday clearing the driveway so we could get out; supposed to get another 6-12" by tomorrow afternoon. I go out every couple of hours to keep a clear path. No thoughts of going anywhere, but just in case!!!
Most places here are closed: churches, stores, malls, etc.
Everyone be CAREFUL!!!
Wow...sounds like the local children would enjoy that snow! But be careful folks (LOUISA!)...over-doing it in the extreme cold will sure get to ya.
We've got ice collecting on the trees, sidewalks, and greenhouse. :>( Depending on which weather geek you listen to much more is moving in this afternoon, evening, and nite. May get accumulation (of ice, not snow) from half inch to two inches. I hear extra crews from South Carolina are coming up here to help out when the power lines start coming down (if they do). And of course, not-so-smart folks are out driving in it, last count was over 100 car wrecks.
Time to put on a big pot of veggies stew, bake some bread, hunker down and enjoy the great indoors as much as possible, eh? (Course I'm sure I'll be out and about working the greenhouse, checking the animals, and doing a bit of wandering around. Might have to put some flip-flops on today, eh?)
Shoe - I'll share my power crews with ya'll just as soon as they finish here. :) It's icy out! People coming home from church were driving like nuts... thinking they were smarter than the icy roads, and could drive faster than those of us taking it slow. I'm glad to be inside now. News crews are already warning everybody to stay in, and forecasting 1/4 to 1/2 " of ice - causing trees to fall, power lines to go out .... all the more a problem because crews never cleaned up trees the right way during the last storm.
YUCK! At least up north they've got snow and road crews! I never thought I'd say this, but I miss driving a few cars behind the salt trucks! Does a wonder on your paint job, but at least the roads are clear....
-Jennifer
We got 5"-6" of snow yesterday! With today/tomorrows storm they are predicting anywhwere from 16"-3' more!!!
And I was thinking spring was on its way?!?!
The poor robins :(
Louisa...I have been out many times today clearing a spot on the deck under the bird feeder for the birds. Poor babies...
Woke to snow on the ground and cars this morning!!! Friday it was 76 degrees............what can I say......it's Texas after all. Chili today, hot tamale!!
"eyes"
Shoe I hope they're insulated flip-flops:)
Fortunately, the snow has an insulating effect for birds; it's warmer for them with snow than with plain frigid wind hitting them. It covers their food, though. :(
MAN, I have to say, this snow is gorgeous. Give me snow over our usual rainy, muddy winters any day (well, okay, a couple of times in the winter's enough).
Our dogs LOVE all the snow - it's hard to get them to settle down to "business" out there!
** Update from Howie: There's 10" on the ground now and we're expecting anywhere from 4-9" between now and tomorrow afternoon. Whooooosh!

Mercy! time to see some pics of snowpeople tomorrow, GW. I'm sure you and Howie will be out there playing in it!
I just knocked the ice of the ghouse for the fourth time today, and am hoping to sit here and enjoy my delish veggie stew (topped with a bit of sour cream) (and accompanied with a few pcs of nearly burnt toast to dip in the broth), and hope the next wave of sleet/ice doesn't really happen.
And elsie... my flipflops are only insulated on the bottom! I love it! It really keeps the ice from oozing up between my toes. (Can't STAND it when that happens.)
I'm sitting here with my rice warmer on my toes Shoe...where's yours???
We have a thin coating of ice and some dry pellets..
(sneet)blowing around. Most of our percipitation fell as rain yesterday and the day before...which is bad enough...I'm ready for Spring!
Stay inside and stay safe all of you that are still getting this!
Sorry about everyones rotten weather. Here is still just cold, maybe light snow(2-3 inches) tomorrow. Funny, Evert shows TV with the weather in this country. If you spin a globe, can you put your finger on Helsinki? [profanity removed]ed if I could. Evert, we need your attitude tho, give help when you can, because it's the right thing to do. Frank
It's still snowin' and blowin' up bushels of fun here...Howie said there's 12" in the front yard. Hard to tell if any of that's drift off the roof or true measure.
Frankay, put your finger on 60° N, and spin the globe - you'll find it.. ;)
We haven't gotten any new snow here for weeks. But now, I have holiday, it is Monday morning 8 AM here, and I was thinking to go outside enjoying the calm, pretty winter day. Sun has just rose up and there are some pink clouds in the sky.
West Virginia had it all Freezing rain in south floods in nine counties and two plus fet of snow in the northern mountains. Governer Wise declared a state of emergency to allow the national guard to assist. Near my home last night already an unofficial 27 inches and still falling. We usually have one or two snowfalls of this amount per winter (except last year)
Wow, Shirley! Boy, we never get that much here -- well, hardly never, but seldom!
