strange word, dont`s you think? it`s Finnish.....and I dont know the English plea.
however, we have Penkkarit at thursday........it is that when student`s in senior high solemnize end of the school, after Penkkarit they keep reading break, when they will read for coming tests..............and they go aroud school on funny clothes.......like bugs-bunny.....Tomb Raider......movie stars, etc etc............and they throw candys every where...........they ask funy guestions and if you answer right they give you lot of candy...........if you dare sing to them they give candy too............
last year I got too much.......LOL! and I felt little sick after them.....even I gave those my sister, mother, brother and friends....................
I will probably take camera at thursday in school......so you gonna see pics in here.....
day after that there is ´old guys dance`........studen`s who will stop school at next year will dance now in there......................
`Penkkarit´
sounds like a real fun day!!!
Here we have days like-hat day, pajama day, spirit day, backwards day, certain color day, but no candy!
cant wait to see your pictures-sounds like "halloween"!
it is nice day........
Halloween doesn`t get much attention in here.........
i wish it didnt get attention here-its one holiday i hate to celebrate!
That sounds fun Mitjo, and your brother looks very handsome..Did he get much candy when he went out on halloween?
We had the "Olders' Dance" dances in PE lesson. :} It was fun x)
:)
he didn`t get very much....because he was`t very long there.........
sure it was:)
Mitjo, that sounds like fun!
When I was at school we had non school uniform days. Sometimes these would be at the end of summer term or when we had a national charity drive.
On the charity days, we had to pay Ł1 for a ticket to allow us to wear 'normal' clothes and often we would dress up in home made costumes and yes Baa and her friend Ban (that's her real name) did once attend school dressed as sheep for 'Red Nose Day'. Didn't ever get any sweets though :(
What a fun thing to do! I love the spirit of young people doing such things, and some are so creative. When I was younger and thinner, I liked wearing vintage hats and clothes, and people always responded in such a positive way. I even wore them in common everyday places, so you know I am wacky. I can hardly wait for your photos. Thanks for sharing this with us.
=)
last year we were the school (highschool) youngest............but now there have came new student`s...........and I`m very sure that they will get lot of candy.........THEY ARE GREED! LOL!
in lower level you dont never get much candy.......and when you come here, you could get very much...hehheh......
so...........why not explot the change.......hhehheh.....
and after they have give candy for the school they will go at down town........on truck`s stage......and throw candy people in there........those trucks have ornate.......
It's so interesting to find out what people do in other countries. Thank you for posting this.
yeah! no problem to posting this....:)
We had the first penkkaris in our school this year. Only got one candy... for some reason they had the Soviet Union flag with them in the truck. :}
you sure didn`t get much......heh.
yeah! they sure have everything...in there.
Great pics!
Thanks!
Mitjo, that looks like it was fun, thanks for sharing...
it was!
Such fun!
Tomorrow is Valentine's Day: do you celebrate it there with more candy at school? Most schools here have a party on that day for the kids, candy, cookies, cake, ice cream, soda: all the kids come home with stomach aches!
nope:) but we have letters sending system...
Here they read Valentine's Day greetings which we have written, in the school radio, and play music which we can choose etc. And we only have one "real lesson". It's PE though. Blaah.
huah! even it`s Valentines day we still had just a boring day today..........in school!
Swedish teacher complained whole lesson.......
We had a nice day and we got our school reports too.
I heard...
But others didn't
Wow, Penkkarit is quite a production! Like Notmartha said, we have spirit week at many high schools here in the US. I remember ours having School Colors Day (ours were blue and white), Hat Day, Pajama Day, etc. Ours was the week preceeding the big football game against our rival school.
:)
yeah....Gardenwife.....it`s fun Finnish tradition....and they did other too......they put everything nice stuff on school walls..........toiletpaper LOL......text what teacher has said.......pics.....
Ha! We had a hallway we'd cover with paper and paint for spirit week. Our rivals were the Johnstown Johnnie's. A "john" is slang for toilet in the US, so a lot of the humor was bathroom humor with that team...Flush the johnnies, pictures of football players with outhouses, etc. ;)
hehhe! sounds funn...
