Birds

Dave, I don't see a forum for birds for us birdwatchers. Did I miss it or aren't there enough of us for a forum? rutholive (Donna)

Hmmmm...maybe that could be covered in the "Wildlife" forum. That would be a good place to start.
And by the way Rutholive/Donna...Lisa just turned me on to a neat site that will show you the birds (and other animals) indigenous to your area. Pretty cool. It is Enature.com
Check it out.

We've often spoken of birds there in the wildlife forum. Stop on by! :)

Since ya'll are talking Birds....I thought I'd post this here. I been wondering if there was a web site that had the noise that each bird makes. Does that make sence? I keep hearing this bird and I can never seem to see it but it makes a weird sound. Almost like the tune of say the "wedding march" I know it sounds funny, but that is why I wanted to know a place to go, so I could see what I am hearing! LOL

Hey, Molly - Why don't you post it over in wildlife? Many won't see your question/answer since it's in this forum. It may be a white-throated sparrow you're talking about, by the way.

Here is a site with a few bird songs. http://www.appaudubon.org/Sounds/sounds.htm

By the way, is that a daytime bird, or nite-time? (Them mockingbirds really have a large repetoire ya know!) And I know some birds will sing a certain song at one time of the year (as in a mating call) and a different song at other times. You've got my curiosity up. Let us know what you find out.

Will do GW, Thanks!

Shoe, This bird I hear is usually during the day and now that I think of it I heard it alot during the summer months. I agree about the mocking birds, they can sure fool ya sometimes.
Heading to the hyperlink now Thanks Shoe!

My mocking birds seem to be imitating tv commercials at times, which is totally amusing. Have you ever heard a bird outside your window saying repeatedly "Pizza, Pizza"? Then one says "Weberg sweet". Weberg is a furniture store in this area, but I don't know why the bird ends with "sweet".

LOL that is too funny Aimee

I've heard of them immitating car alarms, telephones, and garage door openers! What a hoot.

Our first experience with a real-life mockingbird was at the Roundup in Tennessee last summer; we camped right below one, and he serenaded us a good bit, didn't he, Shoe? It was so cool to hear snippets of other birds' songs in his repertoir.

That bird sung nearly ALL nite! It was my first time hearing so many songs from a mocker! (And every once in a while I'd hear some bass runs...musta been Howie snoring.) (Or was it Kimberly?)
Anyway, I bet I counted 17 or 18 different tunes that bird sung (then I'd lose count, but he/she would then start all over).

'Twas definitely Howie. If we'd had Buddy at that time, it could have been him, though!
