Wow, 32,083! Cabin Fever Medication Anyone?

Montgomery Center, VT(Zone 3b)

Wow, leave you guys for a month and what have you done? Now it has reached 32,083 members!!! I guess I need to update my link to Dave’s Garden at my Impressionist Garden web site—I still have it listed at 9,600. I remember that I updated it once since I first posted the link/promo on 12/18/01. For a glimpse back in time, before I update the link; http://www.jerrygryniewicz.com/safeplace3.html

Well I assume not all 32,000 members live in a location that has a snow cover as I do here in South Burlington, Vermont. Many of you may already have colorful flowers to look at. I do not. So I cheated and grew some tulips in my computer to get a jump on the coming season. I will post one here for the many gardeners who also have mostly snow to look at. I call it “Forever Spring” and hope it brings you a warm colorful smile.
http://www.cybermonet.net/NewArt.html

For those of us that are still snowbound some are familiar with the term cabin fever. I am grateful to have my computer to give me a colorful floral fix or I might be labeled as strange—some of those faux flowers at the craft stores look so real, I bet they would stop traffic if I planted a few hundred in my front yard’s, 8 inch snow cover, LOL!

My second piece of wish it was spring is called “Friendship”. Because the name could be confusing I will just leave you a link, as there is an artistic interpretation there.

So to all my fellow gardeners who anxiously wait for spring and have only snow to look at presently, I hope my computer grown flowers bring you a warm colorful smile. However, I cannot wait to get my hands back in the dirt.

32,083 members—what a big family!
Happy gardening my friends,

Hey Jerry
I was looking through some old gardening magazines last night.
I found an article in National Gardening, I think from 1998 featuring you and an article on seed starting, pictures and everything.
We have a celebrity among us.

Paul

Montgomery Center, VT(Zone 3b)

Darn Paul you blew my cover--don't tell anyone else, ok? LOL! Yes you are correct about the seed starting article. Cheryl Dorshner and NG staff put together a nice piece.

There are not as many pictures in the web version archived at National Gardening, but since the "Starting From Seed" tips might be of interest to fellow gardeners, here is the link; http://www.garden.org/articles/scripts/articles.taf?id=23&kwd=starting%20from%seed&Articlesstart=1

Paul, thanks for sharing your find with me as it made my day! It is too easy to forget ones accomplishments as life is so darn busy we tend to just move on and forget.

Thank you my friend,
Jerry

Jerry, I'm pretty new to DG, so hadn't seen your name before. Glad I went to your hyperlink. Very informative. You are so organized. I've been gardening since long before you were born and planted lots of seeds. Never thought of your very good way of organizing seeds. Will find a container and use that method from now on. Thanks rutholive (Donna)

Nice article JG.

Santa Clara, CA(Zone 9a)

Jerry, It was a great article, you are so organized. Do you have any pictures of your garden you can post? I'd love to see the results of all your work.

Montgomery Center, VT(Zone 3b)

Kathy, I don't have a picture of my entire garden but this one shows a good piece. At least gives the general idea of style.

It's just beautiful, I like the way it blends in with the background meadows and hills. Are there pathways through it?

Fantastic JG,Beautiful Garden!

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

WOW Jerry what a beautiful garden that is! Amazing to look at even from a distance like this. I sure wish I could see it up close and personal. Thanks for sharing your beautiful corner of the world! Lani

Edited to add that I have cabin fever also but thanks to my time spent at DG it is much easier to take than in years gone by.

Kathy, yes there are paths between the 12 flower beds in the picture. They are 18 inches apart and are a nightmare to maintain. I should have removed the sod, replaced with crushed rock and put edging around each of the beds. I spend most of my summers weeding. One can only learn from their mistakes.

Well being that we all are kicking Cabin Fever out, Lani this piece is for you.

Jerry, Your flowers are a welcome site. It will be awhile before I see any flowers with two feet of snow still on the ground and the news saying Thursday will be -15 to -30 .

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

WOW........what great pictures and what an incredible garden. Thanks for a such a happy thread!

Snowhermit, there are many times based on political issues where I would have prefered to be a New Hampshire resident instead of being a Vermonter. Everyone seems to think because I am an artist/gardener and live in Vermont I must be a flaming liberal...not that there is anything wrong with that....It just happens to not fit me as a USAF veteran and now a DOJ employee. My country comes first as that is where I garden. And one of my favorite AM Talk Radio shows is Howie Carr out of Boston...Ok I listen to Bill O'Riely too

Wow I am way off topic. You have a lot more snow than we do Snowhermit.

Ohhhh so pretty a picture you paint with your camera. TY for the look at Blue St. Lou and Pinky. That pink is so shocking with the nice deep blue. Nice touch. I love those contrasts.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Jerry,is your talk radio on the net??

Jerry, my daughter lives in Vermont and I understand what you are saying.I think things have calmed down a lot now.Maybe someday the damage can be undone.I'm not far from the VT border and much of my business is done there. I listen to WCAX tv out of Burlington.

Jerry, great pictures, wonderful garden. A little thread hijack here, have you seen the threads about a Northeast roundup?
here's one back at you.

JerryG, your whole ? garden pphoto is beautiful, sure not curing cabin fever tho. Donna

Orlando, FL(Zone 9b)

Jerry G, come on down if you wanna put your hands in some dirt. I got plenty and am fixing to do some landscaping in the back yard. I have been looking at the local nurseries for prices and availability. Hope to buy and start in stalling in the next couple of weeks. I think I can manage to wait that long by putting in the summer veggie garden...we'll see :) I suffer "ants in my pants" syndrome!

Montgomery Center, VT(Zone 3b)

Guys, I did not mean to post and run as I truly am trying to share the love of gardening experience with you in a way better than my past history here at DG.

However, I have been gone for a while as my father passed away a few weeks past. He did not suffer any pain as he passed out before his heart stopped. He was stubborn and did not go get a heart valve replacement when the Doctors told him to do so. He would have turned 70 this comming June and would have lived 10-15 years more had he listened to his doctor--that was one of the hardest things for me to overcome.

Bob, yes Howie is on the net http://www.howiecarr.org/

Snowhermit--well we do now have a republican Govener--we are taking baby steps.

ButterflyGardnr---What no snow!!! LOL!!!

Pontis, yes that blue moved me too.

rutholive, there is really no official cure for cabin fever.

Kathleen, you can hijack my thread any time!! No guys don't read anything into that just being a good neighbor.

Happy gardening,
Jerry

So sorry about your father Jerry, I never know what to say at these times, just know that we feel for you and your family.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

So sorry to hear about your father Jerry.

Panama, NY(Zone 5a)

Jerry, sorry to hear about your father. Stan's dad died at the end of January, so I can say we know what you're going through and send you some gentle gardening strength.

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Jerry, sorry about the loss of your father. I'm sure that gardening will help. I got my seeds somewhat arranged as you said you do by putting them in containers by planting time. I still have some to go. My Morning Glory seeds are soaking and i will get them planted tomorrow. Take Care. rutholive (Donna)
