Price of Gas! Ack!!

Pittsburgh, PA(Zone 6a)

I had to fill my gas tank up on my car this morning and paid $1.56/gallon. Ouch! Yesterday morning it was $1.46/gallon. What a jump in price! What's the price of gas in your neck of the woods?

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I just paid $1.61 at the cheapest on the strip. Everyone else was $1.63!!! Glad I don't drive my guzzler much more than I do. LOL

Victoria, TX(Zone 9b)

Ours is ranging anywhere from 1.29 to 1.43, depending on what part of town you're in ... I was sad to pay 1.40, just to find the 1.29 later in the afternoon last Saturday..

Cochrane, ON(Zone 2b)

Come on up here and you can pay 80+ cents per LITRE (4 litres/gal). We have a 4x4 pickup & it costs us around $70/week for gas right now. Very depressing.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

oh my the news just said ours is 1.68-1.70 andd i need gas.
it was like 1.46 monday!!!!
all becuz we are ANTICIPATING war. cant they wait.
=[

Allen Park, MI(Zone 6a)

Its a $1.65 here in the Detroit area.
I heard on the news this morning that Michigan was oneof the highest stats in the U.S. I don't have a clue as to why.

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Well, here we are in the Alaska, an oil producing state, and we've got your gas prices beat all to heck. It's $1.82 at the pumps here in Seward now. My understanding is that the shortage is due to the coup d'etait in Venezuela where whe usually get much of our U.S. oil.

Pittsburgh, PA(Zone 6a)

I suppose once I put it all in perspective I ended up only paying about $1.00 more total. Mind you...I'm certainly not complaining. I'm glad we have the gas to put into our vehicles. I guess what threw me so much was the increase happening so quickly.

There is something to be said for the horse and buggy. lol

Surry, VA(Zone 7b)

When I filled up this morning it was $1.41/gallon compared to $1.36 on Sunday when DH filled up, and we use the same gas station. In this area gas prices usually change on Thursday morning - I don't know if this is the same nationwide.

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

Here is $1.49

New York City, NY(Zone 6b)

My wife and I travel back and forth to Germany, where gasoline is sold by the liter.

Recent price per liter was just under 1 Euro.

One Euro today is worth $0.92. There are just about four liters in a US gallon.

This makes the price of gasoline in Germany about $3.56 per gallon.

Adam.

It's about $5 USD here in the UK

(forgot to add per gallon)

Baa ~~~

That's right..., about ten days ago I paid 74.8P/liter, which comes out to around US$4.90/gallon.

How could I have forgotten?

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

Sledder, on Monday gas was $1.43/gallon. Tuesday morning it went to $1.66/gallon. Typical for us: 15-20 cent rise. All the gas stations change at the same time on the same day. And they claim it isn't collusion, just coincidence.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

40 years ago gas was 25¢ to 30¢ a gallon. Guess what? Wages were $1 to maybe $3 an hour. Please compare.

New York City, NY(Zone 6b)

Personally, I am not complaining about the cost of gasoline. In fact, when we factor in environmental impact and that it is an absolutely finite resource, fuel is shockingly under~priced.

From an econometric point of view, we ought to be factoring in environmental and health damage associated with use and replacement cost of the energy source into the price.

Imagine what a gallon might cost if these things were added to a trip to the pump?

My Dh and I drove down to San Diego today and we were so surprised when we saw a gas station selling gas at $1.93 per gallon. It is in the mid $1.60's up here in Orange Co. which is 100 north of San Diego.

Sure glad I don't have an SUV gas sucker. ....lol

It's killing the transportation industry! I have my own truck, but only drive locally so I will survive. My boyfriend and thousands of owner operators on the other hand are seeing their small profits getting burned up in fuel.
For somebody that buys 500 or gallon a week it's a lot of money. Diesel was $1.16 here not long ago, now it's $1.54.
Some get fuel surcharges, but not all, and it never gets close to cover the actual cost.
It won't be long before people and companies start losing their trucks.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Here one litre costs around 1 to 1,10 €/$.... So I don't think your prices are very high.

gaspricewatch.com is an interesting site; it is closed for maintenance right now but it will tell you the price of gas anywhere.

Today go up $1.55 a gallon too much. =(

Orlando, FL(Zone 9b)

I just saw prices ranging from $1.56 at the low end to $1.69 at the high end for a gallon of regular unleaded gas. It was only $1.42 to $1.45 per gallon about a week or so ago. Hopefully Sam's Club gas is much cheaper. Usually they beat the regular gas stations by $0.05 to $0.08 per gallon. The Costco gas is even cheaper than Sam's usually, but I don't have a membership there. Guess I will be filling up at Sam's Club for a while!

Seymour, IN(Zone 5b)

Our's raised from $1.43 to $1.65 overnight . Six month's ago, the state was in an uproar about a .06 per gallon increase in the gas tax. Much ado about nothing compared to the recent increase. Lou

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Here in my little town of 1020 there are 5 gas stations, well I guess 5, and that many different prices. Where i usually gas up it was 1.49 until a couple of days ago, now is 1.55. Luckily i get about 30 mpg with my car as I am on the road alot. rutholive (Donna)

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

40.00 bucks!!!

1.69 a gallon
Yesterday,when I was near Ithaca,NY it was 1.74.......

Hubby just paid 1.74 9/10 yesterday; for mid-grade.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

our average is 1.79 for regular unleaded as of yesterday....but it is expected to rise soon since our dealers usually feel they need to be higher priced than the rest of the nation.

Spring Hill, FL(Zone 9a)

don't forget that about 1/3 of the price in the US is due to taxes! The fuel itself is a bargain,

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I was going to post that picture if someone else hadn't, CoCo. It just about sums it up!

Here's info on the taxes relative to the cost per liter: http://www.gaspricewatch.com/gastaxes.asp

The site, Gaspricewatch.com, lets you see what local gas stations are charging for gasoline in your area. They have volunteer spotters who report to them. Check it out: http://www.gaspricewatch.com/USGas_index.asp

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

CoCo, I love that sign! LOL!!! I have to admit I have no idea what DH is paying. But I won't complain. We live in a free country and it's almost spring. I could live in a dictatorship and it be almost winter. :)

Mount Prospect, IL(Zone 5a)

Yeah, I paid $1.72 Tuesday and I'm down to half a tank, so will have to fill it up again. I'm afraid to see what the gas is today!

New York City, NY(Zone 6b)

Thank you, thank you, thank you Garden Wife for putting up that link.

I hope everyone takes a look at that data, and that it adds some "fuel" to this discussion.

Here are my questions: Where, how and by whom is the price of gasoline set? How is the tax money collected on gasoline spent?

Any takers?

Adam.
