NO pictures show?????

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

When I get on this Dave's.. photos not show at all even Dave's Garden not show too.. Is it from this or from my Norton Internet Security that I just installed today. Let me know, if it is from mine,, how can I fix that so I can see the beautiful pictures on DG LOL..

Mini, the photos disappeared a few hours ago -- I think it is an interim solution to keep the site up while Dave is working to get the new stuff installed.

The Dave's Garden logo appears, but slowly -- keep watching for it.

You must enable referrers in Norton Internet Security in order to be able to view images at Dave's. Look through the preferences in it, Mini - it's that causing the picture problem. :)

Gw,are you getting the picture to the right,for PDB that always runs up the page?Im showing an easter cactus,with the xbox

Some pictures appear to be broken (MiniSchnuz, you'll still need to fix your firewall, though).

Everyone else: When you see any pictures broken, please report them here and I'll fix 'em right up. (I just fixed the PDB box)

I went and checked the setting under NIS... It still show pictures not on this DG only. I checked Ebay and others.. All are showing.. :o(

"Images aren't showing up - referers are disabled"
The problem is in the "referer" field that your browser normally would send to a website. Some firewall and anti-virus software (for no good reason) disable the referers in your browser, and this can only be enabled through the firewall or anti-virus software.

In short, Dave's Garden and the Plants Database REQUIRE referers in order for you to view pictures. This is to protect the copyright on the images that our members upload in good faith to the site.

Referers are used to prevent thieves from stealing the images. It doesn't work 100%, but it's far more than any other site does.

Directions to enable referrers in Norton and Zone Alarm are shown below. If you
are using a different product, please consult your product's documentation to
enable the referrers.

Norton Internet Security

* Open Norton Internet Security.
* Click "Options".
* Click "Internet Security".
* Click the "Advanced Options" button.
* Click the "Privacy" tab.
* Change Referrer (under Browsing Privacy) to "Permit"
* Click "OK".
* Click "OK" again.
* Close Norton Internet Security and the pictures should show up.

Zone Alarm

* Open the Zone Alarm configuration panel by double clicking on the Zone
Alarm icon on the bottom right of your Windows Taskbar, or by opening
Zone Alarm from the "Start" and "Programs" menu.
* Select the "Privacy" menu on the left hand side.
* Click on the button labelled "Custom", in the "Cookie Control" section.
* Remove the tick from "Remove Private Header Information".
* Click "OK", then close the Zone Alarm configuration panel. The pictures
should work fine now.

Dave.. is it 2003 Norton Internet Security that you are talking about? I went under Options then Internet Security then couldn't see or find "Advanced Options" button?

Mini,

I'm not sure what version of Norton those instructions are for. I've never seen the product, and those instructions came from Norton over a year ago (it's a canned message I wrote to send to folks from the helpdesk queue).

Somewhere you'll find the "Privacy" and "Referer" options. Those referers need to be enabled. If you find it, would you let me know where it was so I could update my message for the benefit of future members?

Searched Symantec.com for

"internet security" pictures

and this was a result: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nip.nsf/0c9d6ca9685531b8852569370052e93c/5dd9b52120433789852569ed0059e688?OpenDocument

I know it's for the 2001 edition, but it might help.
