What to do?

Northport, ME(Zone 5b)

Had angiogram last Monday. They say I need a stent. Maybe 2. Anybody know what a stent is?

A stent is basically a support inserted within tubular structures of the body, such as arteries, to help them remain open. The material used in the construction of a stent depends on where in the body it will be used. I will pray for you to receive exactly the care that you need for health, energy and vitality.

Thanks Whiterose, Aneuryism is in right carotid just south of skull. It will be done in MMC in Portland. Wish me luck. They do have the prettiest nurses. (I know, I'm old enough to be thier father)

Many, many people have stents inserted in their carotid arteries and that procedure saves them from strokes and many other dangerous and unpleasant conditions. Now that you have said you have an aneurysm, I have a clearer idea of why the stent is necessary. Aneurysms are bulging areas of arteries where the arterial wall is weakened; after an aneurysm is surgically removed, the ends of the artery are sewn together again; a stent supports the artery where it has been reconnected.

You are so fortunate that the doctors discovered this condition, and I know you will be fine. When is your surgery?

I will have you in my thoughts and prayers and I agree with Whiterose that you are very lucky for them to have found this before something catastrophic happened to you. Putting in stents has really gotten to be a routine proceedure for many surgeons. You will be fine I am sure.

Not scheduled yet. They found this because of persistent headaches and 2 MRIs. They are acting like I have HMO insurance. I don't, plain old insured by me w/5k deductable. I wish they would just do it. How was your weather today? How are you? Frank.

Yes, Frank, I agree that it would be good to schedule it and just get it done. Surely if you phone the doctor's office and explain what your insurance situation is, and tell them that you are serious about having the surgery done as quickly as possible, they will put you on the books. It's wonderful that the doctors found the cause of your headaches, and now they need to go ahead and take care of it!

The weather in Durango (which is in the southwest part of Colorado) is just like spring -- we even have crocuses up. But that's not a good thing, because we're having a serious drought. We were hoping for a winter with heavy snow and rain to help prevent forest fires in the summer and fall. I haven't heard how Ponditis' weather is.

I guess I'll have to live. Who else will clean up my pond this spring? Or ride the "British Beastie"? (My way too fast Triumph) My wife has also hinted she might like it if I stuck around.

We'll all be happy at DG if you hang around, too! Yep, you'll definitely have to live.

Frank, wishing you luck with this and that you get it done soon. Spring is close at hand and you don't want to be held up then!! good to have you here at DG

Best of luck in your upcoming surgery :) Be sure to post a thread so we can all be praying for you. And show your DW how to print it out to bring to you after the surgery (if she doesn't already know).

Frank, prayers for you, I'm sure you will do well and as others said it is so good the doctors found the aneyurism (sp) soon. My husband died because the doctors didn't know he had an aneyurism, then developed other problems. So you are lucky in that respect. Best wishes, rutholive (Donna)

Frank, I will invite the dear old men here at our infirmary to pray for the success of your surgery, A number of them have had similar surgery and are doing just fine. One of the men was preparing to go to the hospital for surgery and was showing his fear by anger. I said, 'Hush now, you're just where God wants you.' Where's that, he retorted. 'In His arms.' Be at peace.

I also will pray for your safe recovery and for a speedy access to your surgery.

The weather here is also in a drought situation. We have had some recent rain but the snowfall which is our summer irrigation water is at 75% of normal. The snow is melting in the mountains because of rain and too much warmth and the ski areas are already having to cut back on their open times
