I just tore myself away from CNN,wondering if any of our DG'rs saw the explosion of the Columbia.I watched it "live" on CNN from the beginning, and I am still shook up after almost four hours.
Gwist
finally coming out of shock.....
I didn't even know about it until my sister (MaryK) called me...hadn't had the TV on all morning. Such a sad ending~~!! Jo
Yes us too.. It is about an hour Jasper, Tx from here. We saw it since 8 am. It was bad fog out there this early am.
Jo,it was awful to see it happen again.I feel for the families, because it is a hopeless situation.
saw it first thing this morning too. so very sad. we just got home from the grocery store, must catch up with what all they know or don't at this point.
I heard about it, but couldn't stand the thought of watching it. I have been praying for the families of those on board; as well as the safety of all our friends in Texas.
It was on the news when we woke up this morning. What a terrible tragedy for those brave souls and their families.
I also heard them warning anyone who finds debris to stay away from it, as it contains harmful/deadly gases that will take a while to dissipate.
MiniSchnuz,it seems to have spread to many states..Lousiana and Arkansas,as well.I hope you are not affected by this,or anyother of our members out there.MY prayers to the families, and to the Nation of Israel, where a day of celebration has also turned into a day of mourning.
This is sad for everybody around the world.
Praying for the families of the crew and that they arrived HOME well.
Was on my second cup of coffee when it sounded like the horses were on our porch. My DH said mabe it was a sonic boom from the shuttle and I said it just didnt sound right. They came on tv and were saying they had lost contact.I know that can happen because it has before on rentry ,but I really had a sick kinda feel about it. Next thing was report of explosion over DFW. That really was a sinking feeling. My daughter is a flight attendent and was flying into Dallas this morning.Needless to say my first call was to her.She had the news on in California and I got the news to her before it had reached there!Thats a Mom for Ya.We just had the aniversary tues.of the last shuttle to not make it home and that doesnt seem like 17 yrs ago.I really feel for the families that were there waiting. It is just heartbreaking.
Bill is watching Fox...they are saying the cause was a possibly blown tire.
When I first saw it this morning, I thought of that last tragedy with the challenger so many years ago. Then wondered about all the dg members that are in texas, Aimee, Eyes, wingnut came to mind...I pray for the families
Yes Indeed,A Sad day in Texas. It seemed unreal when it happened 17 yrs ago,but when you feel and hear it, it just seems so unreal.Just makes you really sick and not knowing or thinking straight. All you can do is pray for all envolved.
All these years of space flight & shuttles. One gets to the point where it is so routine that you think nothing can go wrong. Then in an instant you are brought back to reality.
God Bless all involved!
ßernie
Oh Weedlady, that must have been horrible for you.I still can't deal with it from so far away, but here it was a bit of news, and back to the opening ceremony of the Ski world Championship!!
It does seem so routine after a while, but then one sees the dangers involved when something like this happens. They are with God now,and he will watch over them and their families.
Snow is only good if you are on it! The only !!
Hey Gwist,do you ski?
I must admit I didn't even know a shuttle was launched 16 days ago. Media doesn't care to inform us anymore. Do I have to watch NASA web-site to know what they are doing? On my tax return don't ask for a dollar for clean elections, ask me for a buck for NASA. I'll sign up for 5.
Oh Weedlady I have tried, and tried, but downhill isn't for me,lol.I stick to the cross-country when i get the chance...the hills aren't as high!
The Challenger images are still burned into my brain, and I don't think I can watch television until this is not likely to be on. I read it on my ISP home page as I was waiting for this slow computer to get to my mail, but so little was there. When I saw "200,000 feet" and "12,500 mph", it left no room for doubt, the outcome was tragic with no good news. I clicked away from it and deliberately didn't watch any more news. Oddly, I didn't see or hear anything unusual, except the military helicopters that seem to always fly over when anything of this nature or national security matters occur. Knowing Fort Hood was probably in an alert mode, I said a silent prayers for those who must now search for clues. Of course, my heart was and is heavy for the families of those loved ones. There was a picture of the Israeli astronaut at the top of the news items, and I looked at it a long time, knowing that nice looking young man was now obliterated. It hurts.
