Snore away to...

... annoy others. The snore is involuntary and the snorer is not usually aware that he is snoring. S/he is unlikely to agree that s/he was snoring. It is sometimes a nuisance, esp. when the decibel level is high. It disturbs sleep and the moods the next day! Recently while on tour with the cricket team, I was the victim of my team mate. He did it for consecutive nights. I tried to minimize the sound with cotton in my ears. It helped to some extent. Our team members were divided into two groups and there were 6-7 in one room. This fella even tried to raise his pillow and turn to his side, but in vain. The snore continued. Now again, our team is going on tour and I'm going to make sure I wont be near him!

Last year while I was traveling in a train, an old man, may be in his 60s was sleeping. Perhaps that was the funniest snore I ever saw and heard. This man was making sounds both ways - inhaling and exhaling! The glottis was participating in the inhaling with a funny vibration (ARRRRRRRRRRGH) and the lips (he had slim and loose lips!) were helping in the exhaling with another funny vibration (PRRRRRRRUHH). I could not help laughing and I was traveling alone so I could not share that funny moment with anyone at that time. After a few weeks on my return, I happened to see the Guinness Book of Records TV show. The loudest snore was being featured. The snorer was again another elderly man and the instrument measured the decibel level equivalent to the sound of a truck. And it was no exaggeration! It seems that about a dozen of his neighbours have changed in recent times. In another scene, this man was shown in a park bench, sitting and his snore frightened an old lady many meters away. That was even funnier. She was wondering where that loud noise emanated from in the peace of a park. Any of you have seen this on TV?

I have returned from the tour and I duly avoided my team-mate who snores loudly. But this time, somehow, there was no complaint from anyone and he didn't seem to snore loudly too.

The funny snore I tried to describe still makes me laugh.
