Jianhua, Happy Happy birthday dear gardening friend!!!!
May your garden always be blooming....
Hello )))))))))))))))
This is Jianhua himself,
hat off in hand,speaking,
Thanks,ladies!
Thanks,gentlemen!
Thanks,boys and girls!
It is your greetings that
makes the meaningful day.
Now report to you my today's experience.
Early in the morning, the singing birds
and the smiling sun welcame to get up.
I brushed my teeth, washed my face.
And just before I had a polish on my leather-shoes,
DS came to me,saying,
'let me do it for you.
It's your birthday.'
'Nope,boy,'said I,
'Study hard,harder,hardest at your lessons,
it will be far better than rubbing my shoes .
I wish you could stand in the crowd,
with head high in the future.understand?'
DW was busy cooking dishes for me.
I only asked her to prepare three dishes.
one was bitter melon;one,Chinese cabbage;one,fish.
And several boiled eggs.No wine,no alcohol.
During the dinner(lunch),my younger brother wife asked me,
'Brother Jianhua,I know schools cannot be without you.
Wonder if at the very beginning you have forecast
English would be of great use?'
'No,not at all.' I replied.
'When I was at school,I just liked English.
And I liked to read fairly tales and stories,
such as Alice in wonderland,Snowwhite,Huck Finns,Robinson Crusoe...The more I read, the more I was buired in them.
By and by I can think and write in English.'
After the meal,DW said that she would send me a gift.
She dragged me to town to go shopping.
Two hours'wandering in the clothes departments,
I was finally in a new jacket.
She appreciated the jacket,
while the chatting box still opened,
'Being a teacher,an example to your kids,
you should pay attention to your outer status every minute,or they would look down on you.
I have thought for a long time
to pack you like a MTV star...Stand steady...looking at the mirror...now pull the zig for you...Well,with this new jacket, you are looking at least 5 years younger,Dear Harly(It is Honey. She learns from me,but does does not remember well, heheheh )......'
Well,that is my day.
Well next time I will share with you on
how the Chinese spend our birthdays.
Jianhua, it is sad that I missed your memorable day. May all your days be as happy as this one appears to have been. I enjoyed reading about your day, and one thing that you said about always being fascinated by the English language made me think that if it had not been for that we would have all missed having you as our friend. Our lives are all richer for that fascination and the availibility of books for you to read so that you eventually would connect with all of us.
jianhua happy happy birthday-sounds like a wonderful day you had there! I hope you have many many more to share with all of us!
Birthday hugz! (((((((((((Jianhua)))))))))))))
Happy, Happy Birthday Jianhua. with all ur family both there in China and here at DG, am sure u are having a wonderful day. Lots and lots of hugs {{{{{ Dear Jianhua }}}}}
Am I too late? I was too EARLY for 'Shoe's...by a YEAR!!!
Jianhua, MaryE put it very well...so I will just echo her post, plus wish you a Very Happy Birthday!! Jo
Oh,wonderful,simply wonderful!
I will store well this sweet day with pride
in my memory bank.
There are so many of our gardening friends
who emailed me cards or posted the greetings
to celebrate my birthday.
It is hard to list all of them.
Here I'd like to say Thank You,Thank You !!
Oh,no,Jo.you are not at all late for my birthday.
In actual fact,I should thank you separately.
You saved your valuable time from taking care of
the ill Bruggie to say Happy to me.
So should I thank Dori
who saved her valuable time
from changing the diapers of her grand Liz
to come to say Happy to me..... ):
Traditionally we Chinese birthdays
are usually celebrated for kids(1 - 12) and elders(60 - z).
As you know,a kid,
who has just paced into this world,
feels all are new and fresh, and curious.
he thinks a birthday celebration for him is a great glory.
And for an elder,
who knows himself the world leaves him the time countable,
so he even more treasures every birthday of his.
How do the Chinese celebrate the birthdays?
Like the way you do,I think,
just eating and drinking and chatting.
This year we celebrated Father's 74th birthday.
(Father is a retired Chinese language teacher)
Early in the morning,we brothers, together with wives,
went to Father's.
'Father has rode his little motorcycle to the wild fields
to catch Katydids(his hobby, grasshopper making beautiful sounds).
He has left words -- "No Birthday celebrated for me this year!" 'my younger brother's wife told us.
We knew Father felt sad and lonely since dear Mother passed away peacefully a few years ago.In spite of many words of comforts to him,he still felt a great loss.
We must celebrate Father's birthday.
We put together 100 yuan(s),
and Big Brother went to town to buy the stuff,
including a big carp fish
(means jump over the coming year's tribulation).
Two tables of delicious dishes had been prepared well
when Father came back home at noon.
Then we ate and drank and chatted...
This made Father the day.
I remembered just before we left,
Father presented each of us 50 yuan(s) as a tip.heheheheh
Thanks for sharing!
happy birthday [[[[[[[[[[[[nana]]]]]]]]]]]]]]

Jianhua I love the poetry of your language and am swept away in your stories. God bless you. :) And happy belated birthday.

And may everyone be happy every day of the year!http://davesgarden.com/t/178707/
