Survivors

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

I recently read about a network that is looking for a place in Louisiana to make a new reality TV show: they want to show all the city yokels facing the challenges of the kind of things our friends, like Redrose, JustmeLisa, Bud, and the rest, have lived with all their lives (alligator stew, etc ;D

It got me thinking. How many of us would thrive if we had to live on a working farm for a month? If we have never done it? How many of us would thrive if we were plopped down in New York if we had never lived anywhere but out in the country? Forced to live in one of those tiny studio apartments, find our way around, not to mention trying to find a job?

To all the different friends I have made here in the past 9 months who live very different places and ways from me: you are all survivors! (And so am I!)

lupine, the show is getting lots of attention here. The news reported the other day that the person will be a son/daughter of a famous movie star that will live out on a working farm. I could manage to live off the land..I am almost sure of it. However, if I were dropped in a big city to survive, I wouldn't make it. I would be overcome with paranoia.

Lisa, after reading about Gardenwife's visit to you, I just know you would be the perfect hostess for this show :) If you want to be picked, just print out some of the threads from that visit.

When I first read about it, it seemed like they wanted to make fun of people living in places other than NY or Los Angeles; but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that all of us have ways of living that other people couldn't handle! (I couldn't handle living in a big city, either. Terrible claustrophibia)

lol Lisa - If I could discard some of my years I could live anywhere, except the city. Now I need the comforts that aging bones require. I have survived in the most inhospitable of places around the world and it could be scary at times but also memorable. Unlike the TV shows though which have limited spans of life, a mere month or two at the most. Nice thoughts Kathy!!
