Jackhammer...

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

The basement guys have come and our house rings with the sound of a jackhammer. O sweet joy! O inspiration!

Pass the Tylenol!

Keep me sane today, people. ;)

Spring Hill, FL(Zone 9a)

BOY! Are you guys LUCKY LOL! Been there SEVERAL times with the added "fun" of being the hammer operator.

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

LOL GW, You could say that you are having a new affair with a fellow named Jack Hammer.

I wonder what the guy who is running the jackhammer thought of Howie on the old toilet next to him? "I had already removed that toilet and this guy shows up and sits down."

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh, my, not a jackhammer in the house! It's bad enough down the street a few blocks. Is there any chance it will be good for pest control, like scaring the mice and moths away?
I hate to think of the damage it must do to house plants, with their little tender systems so sensitive to sound. (Try saying that aloud three times. No one will know if you goof.)

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Well, at least it was in the basement...but the duct work sure does carry the sound everywhere. I guess they knocked on the door a couple times yesterday, but we were clueless that they were there!

The poor plants around our house's foundation are probably going to be really hurting. The only plant I know they were careful with is my big clematis vine; they dug a nice rootball and moved the trellis at the same time, just as I requested. It's sitting out, rootball wrapped in plastic, awaiting reinsertion with the soil once they have the tile and gravel laid in the trench.

I would not want their job...It's cold and they're hauling stuff by 5-gallon buckets, by hand. I must say it is a wonderful feeling to have someone else doing the work around here just this once!

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

just think of the new garden that you can do around the house this year! If there was somethings you didn't like, now is the time to change it!

I wouldn't want their job either. Sometimes it is surely nice to be a woman!!!!!!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Last day! They're finishing up and will be done today. Three days instead of two, but that's not so bad.

My poor clematis vine was sitting out in the cold with only plastic wrapped around its root ball. It's been VERY cold here at night (been cold, period!), and I am doubtful of its survival prospects. If it does live, I'll be beside myself with joy; if it doesn't, we'll live.

There's no way they've put stuff back from where they dug them up. Noooo way. I probably will lose the lilies along the right side of the house; I knew I should have gone ahead and divided them in the fall. *sigh*

We don't want to risk clogging up the drainage with roots, so we're going to plant only annuals and shallow-rooted perennials around the house from now on. The tile is about 18" deep, though that varies with the slope.

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

Kim:RETREAT!!! there is a place in the back of your mind...a place where the birds chatter and so does a 5 year old. A place where the sun is warm on your skin. A hammock sits.....waiting....gently swaying back and forth in the gentle southern breeze, calling for someone to nestle in it and read a good book. A dead end road, where time seems to just stand still for a moment. The lizards sun themselves for hours at a time.....there, now how is that for a headache remedy?;-)Glad to read the jackhammers are leaving soon.

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

It it done yet?

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

They're finishing up! There's a couple of things which aren't quite as the salesman described they'd be (for one, he didn't mention there'd be a piece of PVC pipe running from the "pressure relief system" (aka SUMP) cap up the wall and out. He made it sound like it would be neatly capped off. Well...Could be worse, and they had to do it that way, because it has to come out above the trenched drain tile outside. Ah well!

Awwwww....Boy does my spot on your porch sound good. Ya know it's 17 degrees here with the windchill making it feel like 7. Doesn't that sound COZY? I'll be glad when the garage door is once again closed and I don't feel a cold draft coming *up* the return vent next to my chair here. It's downright blustery out there, folks!

I've just updated at http://blog.gardenwife.com - it's too hard updating two threads, plus my DG journal, plus my blog, so it's all there. :)
