Snow Skiing

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

Ok, I need some help here. I have never been snow skiing in my life. I have no idea where to go or how expensive it is.

We can't seem to decide what to do for spring break this year. I thought of snow skiing since we'd never done that as a family. We did Disney last year since they had a special military discount (too expensive otherwise).

We don't have a ton of money to spend, but we can always eat beef jerky and pop tarts if necessary. :)

Any ideas where we can go the last week in March? It'll be my husband, and our two girls (ages 10 and 3).

Thanks in advance.

Oh, my goodness that is a lot of snow. It's 70 degrees here today, so hard to imagine that much snow on the ground. :) It's beautiful, though. Like you said, though, it may be a little far for us to go. I am so clueless, I don't even know where any good ski places are other than Colorado.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Come to Finland, we have snow and lots of excellent skiing places, both cross-country and alpine.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Carla, our youth group is going to Indiana (a bit closer than Finland or Oregon, lolol.) I'll try to get some info for you, so you can add it to your list of potential places. I *do* know they have a wonderful hotel with a spa, etc., so if skiing isn't your bag...or you're too sore to do a second day on the slopes, there are nice alternatives (grin).

Of course, by mid-March, I have no idea how much (if any) snow they'll have; ditto for Gatlinburg - they make snow, but I'd still have to say it's more like ice skating downhill than snowskiing (what can I say - I grew up in Colorado, and it's tough to beat the Rockies for skiing!)

Hey smiln32, Skiing in Maine or New hampshire is great in March. Don't buy any equipment. Rent it first to see if you ever want to do it again. Go to the slopes andtake a beginner course. You might be bored after 15 min. But you will get enough to get down the hill W/O a crash. Buy some Maple Syrup for your friends or a "I survived OKEMO" or "Sunday River" T-shirt. Skiing is about as expensive as going to the Mall. Much cheaper than snowmobiling. Hope your winter vacation always brings good memories. (I want to go to Florida). Frank

Frank,

Our biggest expense, then, will be getting there. Hmmmm. Airplane tickets to Maine, eh? :) I'll have to check that out. Thanks for the information, folks. I need to do more research.
