Does anyone have any experience with these, or know of any for sale? Thanks, John
Clarke Cortez Motorhome
I dont' even know what it is. something like an Airstream? a pull-along? Or is it one of those kind you drive (now THAT would be what I'd like to have. Just a small one tho, what with me being a miser and all.)
Someone on eBay has an old 1978 model listed: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6727&item=1876328944
Jut read all about that one, GW. Dogs, that would be nice to own!
'Shoe, it is one you drive, no bigger really than a large car (well, when cars were cars). And yes, it does 60 mph at 16 mpg, miserly enough? (not bad for those of us used to cars which achieved 8 mpg!)
GW, thanks for the link! Believe it or not that is the "newest" one, last year made! They go back to 1963/1964. They are made by Clark, but have Chrysler/Dodge engines, until later years when Olds supplied motors from their Toronado!
Wish I could find one not so far off as CA, hard to inspect it before buying that way. But I am "watching" that auction closely.
John
'Shoe, what were you doing? Checking out my RV while I was typing to ya?
Hehehe..yep!
and really, that is a good price for something like that,eh?
But I'm like you...would have to see it "in person".
Jut think...one could go to every DG roundup in the whole newnited States with something like that!

Pardancanda, I think there's 2 for sale on http://www.homesteadingtoday.com
'Shoe, that was my idea...
Ivey, thanks for the link. I was only able to find someone (Grizz) selling two older motorhomes, no mention of the type, was that it? I did email him...
John
Yes, that is a ways to go to inspect the vehicle. But if you found out it was what you wanted, you could just make a vacation of it and drive home the scenic route. :)
Now, that sounds like a plan, GW! I'd have to map out a route of DG friends on the way...
I think you should buy it/bid on it, John.
Is that price listed ($2,026) what the guy wants for it? Or the least he'll take?
The high bidder has $2026 on it, but that bid still hasn't met the seller's reserve price, which is the least he'll take (and something he keeps private). Reserve price auctions drive me nuts...Just wish sellers would make their opening bids the minimum acceptable and go from there. I realize people are more likely to bid if the starting price is low, but c'mon! Sometimes you can e-mail a seller and find out the reserve on an item, but not all will disclose that information to you.
Ohhhh....so that's how it works.
Well in that case, I imagine the guys reserve price is probably mucho bucks! Oh well....
Get a pick-em-up truck and a tent, John.
John, you can come to Idaho and visit me and MaryE is only about an hour and a half from me. I have a hookup for a motorhome too. Well, at least I have an electric extension cord from the shop. :) Good luck shopping.
Just got back from Disney (FL)and checked this thread! 'Shoe, I wish that were the actual price, but as GW pointed out, there is that "reserve"; gets people involved and then into a bidding war. I like when they have a "buy" it now" price! Thanks GW for sharing the info.
Ponditis, will keep your kind invitation in mind, that would be fun to visit you and MaryE. Will let you know what's up when/if I find the right motorhome. Thanks, John
Well, it's up to $5100 and the reserve's been met. It's all downhill from there. Hmmmm...So, any DG folks gonna try and snipe it? ;)
Just checked in at eBay, the Cortez is up to $5, 100!!! The "reserve" has now been met. Would never sell that high except at an auction... Good grief, 'Shoe, you want this one, go for it! I am OUT of the bidding!!! John
Nope...too rich for my blood, but it sure was a nice pipe dream for while, eh?
Reckon I better get back to the idea of putting in some storage cabinets and a potential bed in the back of my pick-em-up truck. Heck, I gotta figger someway to get myself and my guitar safely to the next DG Roundup!
GW and 'Shoe, you guys are sure keeping an eye on this thread!!!! I'll keep looking, then watch out, never know when I'll be pulling up your driveway.
Pull on in, John! I remember yrs ago I really wanted what is called a "Chinook" (or somethin like that), might've been made by Toyota. A small motor-home type thingy. Good gas mileage, enuff room for two (maybe 3), self-contained stove/fridge and such (no "bathroom")...but that would've done me justice. Heck, who knows, maybe that is what I'd still like to this very day! (I'm a miser ya know.)
John, If you wanted me to I could put an ad for a Cortez in my local free want ads paper. The ads are paid for my commercial ads and it has wide circulation. I could then have a local mechanic look it over if one turns up. Then you would HAVE to come visit. sneaky me. heh heh
Okay, 'Shoe, I'll remember that. Ponditis, sneaky indeed. I was really hoping to at least 'find' one closer to home before setting out on a long trip. Will keep that offer in mind though! John
Well, I had to try anyway. Good luck.
Hey Shoe, I don't know if you remember our camper from Roundup but it is a Trailmanor made in east TN. We dearly love it!!!! We have had it for 3 years and haven't had one complaint yet. You might want to look it up at trailmanor.com They have all sizes and they fold down just like a trailer. They are sooo easy to pull. We have a bathroom, kitchen facilities, sleep 6 comfortably and also one kid on the floor with legs under the bed. It is snug and warm in the winter and cool in the summer as it has air cond. and a furnace. I didn't care for the chemical toilet and replaced it with a port-a-poti. To each his own but that didn't appeal to me.
Concerning a truck bed, We have a removable platform built over the wheel projections. We have a queen-sized blow up mattress that we use to sleep on. The topper that we bought to go on the truck has windows that slide open for air, and we use a drop cord with two plugs, in the back for electricity. I have all of my outdoor camping supplies in large plastic bins that slide onto the platform. We even carry our own wood in bins when we think we won't be able to find any. We bought a tent from Cabellas that zips onto the back of the topper and extends our living space greatly. It unzips when we strike camp. I carry a port-a-potti for that setup. I can even set that up in the tent with a curtain for the little ones to have privacy.
Ellen, sounds like ya'll are ready to roll and go just about anywhere! What a great setup!
John, looks like your choices are unlimited!
eBay Clark Cortez just sold for $5, 201.
Price held for days at $5, 100; then in last 1 min 12 seconds someone bid that extra $ 101!!!
No, not me...
Snipers! (We've been guilty of that before, but not on anything that pricey).
GW, and I never did get the email I was supposed to from eBay telling me there were 24 hours left on that auction (not that it mattered). I have bought some small items, and usually just decide exactly how much I will spend, and then let eBay bid for me.
Any more out there? Now I am on a Quest!!!
