air traffic over the US

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

on a TV program just now an American air traffic controller said that at any given time there are 50,000+ 'planes flying into, out of and over the whole of the US

amazing!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

It is an amazing statistic. Although, when you consider that the U.S. covers 3.7 million square miles (9.6 million square kms), there's certainly enough airspace for those 50,000 planes...

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Makes you appreciate the job those controllers did on 9/11, doesn't it? Imagine trying to get all of those planes down safely and quickly, all at once with no prior warning. In my opinion, it was done in a very professional manner, with not a single disaster and as little as possible unnecessary turmoil. Yes, there were inconveniences, but that is to be expected in such an event. Kudos, AC members!

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

I'm proud to say that my DH is a retired Air Traffic Controller. After 34 years of it, he retired 12 years ago and has lived to tell many stories. Just think when he started at 17 in the Air Force, there were no computers and everything had to be separated by hand written "strips" and verbal instructions.

No wonder I get such Poor TV Reception!
(50,000+ Planes)...
Not because Azaleas DH was an Air Traffic Controller.
And to think...Someone once called these skies;
"The Friendly Skies".

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

Once, driving to LAX (Los Angeles Airport) to pick up my parents, I do believe at least 50,000 airplanes landed/took off in that hour. Just at that one airport!
