Hi Dave

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I would like to give 2 friends a year's subsciption to Dave's to see if they will like being daved. Is there I a way I can sign them up and then they can look around and then decide on their user name? thanks
Kelley

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Kell, I'm not Dave, but I can answer your question. It's a yes and no answer :)

Yes, if you know their email address AND can choose a moniker they'll like. No, if you answered no to either of those stipulations. Hope that helps! Let us know when you've got them signed up so we can form a reception line at the door!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

oh.............. I would have to pick out their name they would use on Dave's? Well, I could not do that.......... too personal a call. I guess I need to tell them up front then and find out what name they like.

You are so sweet Go_vols! thanks

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Kell, I think they can change their user name once you sign them up. Might be wrong here though.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Changing a user name is a "last resort", and I would be derelict in my duties to tell you it's no big deal. Dave has done it on request for a handful of members who presented a good case for changing their name.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Ok, i just signed one of my friends up...I think! I used paypal and my computer froze before I went to the last screen but it seemed like the deal was done. when can she start? It did not ask me for a password or an email address for her. thanks

"down the Shore", NJ(Zone 7a)

go_vols is right, I think Dave said a name change is a once in a lifetime event. Knew I should have thought it over more... John

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Pardancanda?gotta say I've scratched the ole head on that one John.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

You and me both, John, everyone thinks Hibiscus is plant!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Isn't hibiscus a plant?
LOL

Anyway, my friend got on Dave's instantaneously! She jumped right in and posted on the rose forum before I could even introduce her. I hope everyone gives her a big welcome. She is such a sweetheart!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Brugie just got in Iowagal,I think they are gangin up.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

rooty......has Iowagirl posted yet?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Kell, I haven't seen a post anyplace yet. I'll talk to her later today and see if she can't make an appearance someplace today. She is quite shy, you know, like me!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I would love to another pperson like you on this site Brugie...........we need more of you! Love and kisses

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Is this the same, "shy" Brugie that we know?????? Thought there for a minute, there's gotta' be another one out there someplace!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Actually, I think it might have been John's name that inspired me to go figure out exactly WHAT a pardancanda was. Then I found myself in this hybrid world where Vesper Irises, Pardancandas and Belamcandas all hang out together. Hey, John - I meant to tell you, we had violet flowers this year from the Vesper iris, but no white ones. But I will continue to watch for one!

When I chose my name, it was really more MRS. Go_Vols - DH signs us up for everythign with Vols in our name, and I -unthinkingly - signed up here using that moniker.

And it has caused some confusion. People think I must be heading up a rodent activist organization (that would be Go_Voles); somebody mistyped it on chat as bols (like a boll weevil. That was fun living that one down.)

In retrospect, if I had known I'd be using the name for 2+ years, I would have taken a bit more care in choosing it. But to change it now would mean retraining myself to answer to something other than "hey, GV!"

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I did wonder what go_vol means........esp the _ in it. I was thinking in terms of volume!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I think that is me Gloria, but I thought I had you all buffaloed.
Terry, I too am glad you explained the name. I sure couldn't figure out what it stood for and was too SHY to ask. :-)

Have a happy day, everyone!!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Well, actually I don't think I explained what a vol is/was, did I?

Just in case anbyody's still wondering, it's short for Volunteer. As in the University of Tennessee Volunteers, who got their nickname from that time we sent a few fellas down to San Antonio to defend the Alamo :-) On most fall Saturdays, 100,000+ people in Tennessee are dressed in a hideous shade of orange (it doesn't grow on you, no matter how much you love the team) and they're all screaming "GO VOLS!!!!!"

I didn't know a vol from a vole when I met DH. When I finally asked him why he had VOLS on his license plate, I pronounced it with a long "O" - like vohl. He corrected me - it rhymes with "ball" and gave me pretty much the same definition I just gave y'all.

And that's the "rest of the story", with apologies to Paul Harvey...

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Thanks GV,I can let my fingers rest,I've been wondering on yours too!

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

Go_Vols, when my mother first saw your name, she said, "oh, a football fan!" Of course, I couldn't make the connection at all (not being one myself).

John, my first impression of your nickname was that you were a Panda (Parda, Panda) I tend to quickly scan, rather than read every letter, it has led to some interesting side-tracks in life ;D But it sure got me interested in Candy Lilies.

The only name change I remember here was for Datdog. Dave does respond to pleas and beggings from his gang, but I think we shouldn't take advantage of him too often. I thought long and hard about my name, but you have to really get to know my off-beat sense of humor to really get it.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

my mind could not get past anaconda:) I do believe TARogers got one of those miracle changes. And yes Go Vols,I had you rooting for furry little animals, lol,
Terry the spell check is a great addition.:)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Well I got my name changed.......... so I best thank Dave a little late............ for doing that for me.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

What was it before, Kell?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

troublemaker..................LOL!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Hah! I don't remember seeing posts under troublemaker, so either you lurked for a while until changing it or you just hung out in forums I don't normally frequent! :D

I remember when Badseed began chatting and posting, we were all like "what's that mean?" But sometimes you just pick a name because it's there (or because all your choices have already been taken and you're desperate...or just weird, like me!).

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

I sure wish I could have been more clever when I picked my name. Cause that is what it is - my name.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I was jsut kidding you, Gardenwife........... as you said my name was taken.......... I was like Roz.......so original........Kel........and when I could not have it, I picked or it suggested Kel1. Then I got to thinking that I did not want to be a number even if NO.1! So being so imaginative I thought of Kell! and that is the end of the story! Since I have picked very clever names for GW and for my yahoo account...... LOL!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

hey Roz....the truth is out........ your real name is Rosalyn Harris....................you are in trouble now

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

Actually, my name is AnnieFlo Justine; I just go by Roz to confuse.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

are you joshing me Roz? Or should I say -- Are you joshing me AnnieFlo? What kind of name is AnnieFlo? LOL

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

Annie Flo Justine was the name of a little girl in a story that my Dad made up and told us stories about when I was little. Annie Flo was always getting into trouble, usually doing what my sister or I had done, but the story provided a solution to her troubles.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Sneaky...And you remembered, didn't you? :D

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

What a great memory Roz! And now I love the name Annie Flo!! Flo is a vintage name, don't you think. I do not think I have ever known a flo. Kind of like Henrietta and Edith.

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Kell, your not going to believe this...My grandmothers name was Henrietta (was from Italy) and my mothers name was Edith.

Annie Flo is a pretty name...if you say it fast, sounds like Aunti Flo. lol

Donna

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Yeh, something like Antifreeze.....

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

What a coincidence, So Cal.
Does sound like Anti Freeze, Hibiscus. Good one!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Gloria...................

SoCal......... my MIL was a Henrietta......Hank for short and I had a much loved Aunt Edith! I kind of like the vintage names........... they were no nonsense names don't you think? Emma is a softer one.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Our Emma is a soft puppy. :) How about Hortense? Or Gladys?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Hortense......... now that is one strong name! Do you know where it comes from GW?
