I finally was able to get in contact with Iris. She has finished her last treatment and has been sick with the flu. She said to tell everyone she appreciated all the prayers and thoughts for her. I think the treatments has her sort of down at the present time. Hopefully it won't be long before she will be back on Dave's. It made my day just to hear her voice.
I talked to Iris
Good to hear she's doing better!
Jim glad ya posted Iris called alittle while ago. I think your right she is alittle depressed right now but will be back with us soon I am sure. It was sure good to hear her voice.
Thanks for letting us know she is OK Jim.I hope she gets over the flu quickly so she can start getting her strength back and come back to Dave's.
Oh Jim...thank you a million times for letting us know. God bless you and Iris too! I'm thinking the radiation lowered her immune system which has made her sick. It just breaks my heart, she jumps through the hoops and does all the stuff they tell her to do and still gets sick. I will pray extra hard for her. Thanks again!
Thank you for letting us know about Iris. I have been worried about her since she hasn't posted lately. I hope and pray she will now be able to mend again after this flu runs its course. Get Well Iris! Hugs , Doris
Thanks a lot, Jim. Glad to know she will be back soon.Jo
Thank you Jim! I'm so glad someone had a way to contact her on the phone. It's good to hear that she is done with the treatments and I'll continue to pray that she feels better soon.
ugh - the flu is awful even when you're NOT run-down. Thanks for letting us know how she's doing. I'll keep sending prayers her way.
Thanks for letting us know how she is doing. Get Well Soon Iris. I'll keep praying.
=)
Oh, good to hear how she's doing, Jim! Iris - if you're down and want to just vent or tell us how you're feeling, you do that. You don't have to always be positive and upbeat with us, so don't feel like you have to keep up the cheer if what you really want to do is cry with us sometimes. We're with you!
Jim, you are a gem! Thank you for the update, and for always being so doggone warm and caring.
Iris, I am so sorry you have to go through this flu episode. Hang in there, drink lots of healthful stuff, munch and crunch on the dark green veggies, take lots of soup. The worst is over, and the next year should be your turn to be babied. Soak it up, sweet lady!
Iris praying for you to get ovcer this flu quickly and for the LOrd yto satrengthen you daily LOve SHirley
So happy to get an update GRC. Iris, hoping & praying you will be well soon.

Iris, my eyes are filled with tears -- what a beautiful blessing, to awaken this morning to posts from you, my friend! I have missed you and knew you couldn't have been feeling very good, but each day brought you closer to the end of those treatments and now they're DONE. You must be bone-weary after going through all that, but your strength will return gradually and -- just as we talked about several posts ago -- we'll all be discussing this in the past tense. Spring is on its way, and with it renewal for our precious Iris. God bless you!

~Evert, I made the 'Ice Lantern'
I took a picture today when I got them done, I look forward to seeing how they look this evening! I had added food coloring to the water when I put them out to freeze, I like the way they came out, ~ Thank's for posting the idea! :) ~~>
Iris, I'm so happy to hear that you are on the road to recovery. Your lanters are lovely, what a clever idea to put food coloring in the water.
Wishing you continued speedy recovery and a healthy year for 2003
Those look great! Were they hard to make? How cold is it there right now?
The colours look nice, we only have plain white ones, and the one blue, which is solid ice :} ROFL
It is really great to have you back. The ice lanterns are beautiful. I did not see Evert's directions for making them. How did you do it? I want to try to do some.
This will be a very good year for you and DH. Nothing but blessings and love ahead.
WhiteRose, TY! :)
They do look really nice in the evening! I made a couple more to freeze tonight so I can put them out with the others tommorrow ~ I made a red one and another blue ( I should have made a yellow! LOL!) I think I'll make about 10 of them and lign them up along the driveway to light up in the evening. Just hope the weather stays cool for a while!
~Peeble, TY for the 'Well Wishes!" I hope you have a Healthy, Happy New Year Also!
~Evert, Thank's! :)
They were a lot easier to make then I thought, Only, I didn't fill the pails up all the way on these and when I turned them upside down to thaw a few minutes, I thought for sure that the drop outof the pail would break them, but, It didn't.
I made two more that I'm letting freeze overnight and this time I filled the pails all the way. I'll have some nice big ones for tommorrow! I made another blue and a red, Can't wait to see how they come out.
The temp here during the day today was 31 degrees, Right now it's 30.
I like the look of your plain white ones, But, I wanted to see how they would look with color in them.
I tried to take a night pic of them, But, I'm not good with nightime pictures ( I should have taken them before it got too dark) But, Here they are ~~>
~LotusBlossom, TY on both counts!:)
Here's Everts instructions in his words: Take a plastic pail and fill it with cold water. Place the pail to a flat surface outside, and let it stay there for a day (this only works if the temperature outside is below freezing point).
Now comes the tricky part. Take the pail inside. Let it alone for a few minutes, to warm a little. Then turn it upside down slowly, near floor (do this in bathroom ;)). Be careful so that the ice won't brake. When you get it out from the pail, make a littel hole on the top of the ice. You must be very careful now, all the water hasn't freezed and the "lantern" is like a glass of water with melting edges. Now, put the pail over the "lantern" and slowly turn it vertically, so that the all water flows away. You must not spend over 8 minutes doing this, the snow quickly melts inside. When the lantern is out of water, take the lantern outside, preferrably to snow, and make the hole on top of it larger, so that you can put a small candle inside it.
I hope you make some and post a pic, Would really like to see it! ~ It took me a couple minutes to figure it out at first, (If you have any questions on it , Let me know)
The first one was really thick and I had to chip a hole through the top, but, The second one was thin and the water made a big hole at the top when draining so I didn't need to make a hole in that one at all ( That second one was done in about 2 minutes flat! LOL! )
I'm hoping this New Year brings Good Health, Love ,And Happiness for all of us!
Love and Hug's to you all!

:)
Our lanterns have some snow around them, and they actually look kinda nice now.
Here it was very easy and fast doing them when it was up to -25 C. ;)
WhiteRose, I wish I could take better night pictures because they look so stunning in the dark. So sorry to hear that you don't have the weather to make them, but, Then again, 60 degrees during the day sounds pretty good to me!
I watched the weather a while ago and it's going to be in the higher 30's tommorrow, But, Only in the low 20's during the day through the weekend and into next week, So , I guess it will be safe to make a bunch and line them up. I'll post a pic for you when I get my row done. Love and hug's!
~Evert, Yes, They do look really nice with the snow, I put mine on mounds where the snow got plowed so they sit high up, It looks like a moutain of light at night, Can't wait to add more!! LOL!
How many have you made Evert? Are they all together or do you have them all spread out? If you get a chance , Post another pic of them ok? Your pictures always come out so nice and I enjoy seeing them!
-25? BRrrrr!! I bet they sure did freeze fast!! How long did you have to wait in that temperature for one to get froze?
It's just as cold here as in Northern States right now :P :}
WhiteRose, They remind me of the kerrosine filled street lanterns of the 1800's ~ They just seem to have an old fashioned magical charm about them.
I'm so glad it doesn't get to ~`25 here ( Way too cold for me!!) Ice laterns would last quite a while though!!! LOL!
~Evert, Nice to hear that your at about 25 instead of ~25
makes the outdoors a bit more enjoyable! :)
