Name for our new nursery???

Old Town (Gainesvill, FL(Zone 8a)

I am going next Tuesday to get our business liscense and was wondering of a name.... We are going to be doing containers with perennials and annuals already ready for patio or porch etc in deco pots and hanging baskets full of color also. I also am going to do a small 200 sq ft cut flower garden where people can cut their own flowers. I have no clue what to call it. I thought about something with K B or K & B because my mom and I both have names beginning with K and my childrens names both begin with B, but fear my mother might feel my neice is left out of this (her name beginning with an S) so any ideas you guys have would be highly appreciated :)

With a pretty name like yours, you must include it in your business name. People will put you and your flowers together and always remember your business. They will say that Katrina has beautiful flowers for sale. They won't remember a made up name that doesn't relate to you personnaly. Most of the growers at our Farmers Market use there first name as part of their farm name. Hope this helps.
Good Luck in your new venture!

Bernie, do you think it would be too much to put my mothers and mine though???? Also another idea just to throw in here is that we are starting this at my grandmothers house. She passed away in November and I love her so much. I wouldn't mind doing a name something to commemerate her... Just another thought

Katrina

Also what kinds of plants catch attention around here or maybe pick off my list???? I am seriously thinnking about that idea... maybe make another thread with contest in the header and link to this or??

Katrina, A contest would be great...as it is too cold most places to be working in the garden...so we need DIVERSION!!! LOL
Start a new thread I think. Jo

Hi Katrina! You may have already said elsewhere (I've missed a lot of postings in the past several weeks) but where exactly will this new nursery be? Are you leaving your current job to run the new place? Sounds like it'll be loads of fun (and work!) Sure hope it does well for you. Good luck!

Cortlandt Manor, NY(Zone 6a)

I would just name it "Katrina's" I love that name (have considered it if we have any more girls). -- In my area the best nursery - - with the most interesting varieties is called "Claire's" -- and everyone knows about it. I am sure the real name is actually "Claire's Nursery".

What is your specialty? Sometimes when I see "Rare Plant Specialist" in a name -- it makes me look there first.

Heya Norma, haven't heard from you in a while!! We'll be opening up in Bronson, you will have to come and visit some time. Not too far from you maybe 25 mins or so!

Alyssum, we are going to be doing containers and hanging baskets mostly (COLOR STUFF) I am ordering in seeds so it won't be stuff that is available around here much but hopefulyl will grow!! Trial and error right!

The only thing about using just "katrina's" is that my mom is also in this with me so would 2 names sound ok together in business name??

What came to my mind was "Pot Them Up!", or a play on words "Pot-toms Up" instead of "Bottoms Up".

Katrina: I have to tell you a little story to preface my suggestion: Many years ago when I was young woman, I loved to sew. My Aunt Bertha was a drapery maker, so she had lots of scraps to offer. Whenever my husband's sister would ask where I got the fabric, I'd tell her it came from Aunt Bertha's scrap box. Finally, she told me she'd looked all over for that fabric shop and couldn't find it. When I explained it to her we both had a good laugh. Probably 20 years later, she opened her own fabric shop in her home town and called it "Aunt Bertha's Scrap Box". I was so pleased, and I knew Aunt Bertha would have loved it too. It was also a very clever name that gave the business a personal touch.

You mentioned your grandmother, and it is obvious that she meant a great deal to you. I'm sure that the house conjurs up many good memories, as well. Why not call your little nursery "Grandma ____'s Greenhouse, Granny's Greens, or something like that. That way no one would feel slighted and your Grandmother would still be sharing it with you.

Grandma _____'s Garden

I tell you a garden center name I just love. It's already taken, here in Ohio: Flowers of the Good Earth. Isn't that nice?

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Yes, that's nice, Gardenwife. The expression 'Good Earth' is so comforting, isn't it?

How about " The Floral Family" or Grandmother's Legacy Bouquets.

Grandma's Good Earth!
