So when do you clean it all up?

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

I just love the lilt of other languages. I've always wondered how those of us in the USA sound to others. I would imagine it's not a particularly pretty language.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

And I've always wondered how Finnish sounds like to foreign people, as it isn't like Russian or Swedish, and sounds pretty weird, and words are long and, we have lots of double vocals and S's and, hmm...

This is how Finn's hear english alphabets. H is the weirdest I tink, we say it "hoo", you say it "eitsh". Funny :)

A = ei
B = bii
C = cii
D = dii
E = ii
F = ef
G = dzii
H = eitsh
I = ai
J = tsei
K = kei
L = el
M = em
N = en
O = ou
P = pii
Q = qjuu
R = aar
S = es
T = tii
U = juu
V = wii
W = daboljuu
X = ex
Y = wai
Z = zet

Evert: I just typed in an English word on your link, and it pronounced it for me. That is so cool!

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

:) It says some words wrong even in Finnish, or, not wrong, but it can't spell everything right. And if you type english there, you'll hear how we think how your words sound like ;) Sounds stupid, ehh..?

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

No, it's really fascinating! I tried Weezingreens, and of course, the 'W' had a 'V' sound (as we interpet it!). It rolled the 'r' and the two 'e's have a soft sound.

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

Hey Evert. It prounounced Lani exactly as it is said by my family. However it was quite strange on some other family names. LOL Fun to play with though and I bet if there is a counter the guy who checks on that website is wondering why there are so many hits all of a sudden. LOL

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

It says most of my family how we do - Vivien (my daughter) was perhaps the most like. However it disagrees with the last syllable of my name - says it Hilaroo rather than how i do - Hilarii

A lot of fun and really interesting thanks Evert :)

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Hilaroo?? to me it says Hilary. :]

:)

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Strange that Evert it says Hilary to me too, but in Finnish
;)

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

What a fun link! I ran lots of names through, and some were a hoot, others informative but I don't know if I can trust it after some of those. I have always wanted to know how the French say Chant d' Aromes, a classic Guerlain fragrance, and it didn't sound at all like I expected it to. Anyone here know? D'Orsay, the name of another fragrance label I love, was pretty messed up.

I start celebrating and decorating for Christmas the first day of December. (A full month of fun) I always try to have everything put up by New Year's Day. I will finish tomorrow. I still have to put up the decorations that are in the middle of the garden room floor. Everything is back to normal in the rest of the house and in the yard. The extra food is now frozen in individual meal size and snack size packages. All the visitors are safely back in their respective homes including the Texan sister who left on a plane at noon today. It was a wonderful Christmas for our family and I hope it was for all of you. Now...... "Happy New Year" to all of you DGers. May it be the best year ever for everyone.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Aimee, as I said, it is for Finnish only ;)

I would say that "shandarom", with French R of course :} Maybe philomel knows?

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Oops, forgot that little technicality!

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

I love it, pronouncing French in Finnish! Maybe we could try some of the Bee Bop talk in Finnish and see how it sounds!

Burwell, NE(Zone 4b)

It is so enjoyable reading everyone's comments. Just wanted to put my 2 cents worth in. From the time I was a child, our family tradition was to not take the tree down be it live or fake, until after January 1st. My parents said that if we took it down before, we would have bad luck in the new year. I do not know which side of my parent's family this tradition came from. Will have to ask them..but whatever...just to be on the safe side, we always wait until after midnight of Jan. 1st of new year. Some years it might be that afternoon or other times it might be 2-4 days later. Has anyone else ever heard of this tradition? Happy New Year to all!

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

Hmmmm a California Valley Girl talking in Finnish. That would be funny.

My Mother says that they always left the Christmas decor up till the Epiphany also. That way the 12 days of Christmas are truly celebrated.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

ive started putting stuff away-i want my house back! We want to put our new suround sound up and the tree is in the way! 12 day-6days-i just want my house back!
by this weekend it will all be gone n back to normal! =]

SEYMOUR, CT(Zone 6b)

well my tree is down and has been since 1/1 we had too it was taking it self down piece by piece. but the boxes are still on the floor in my living room, it was realy funny at first watching my two kittens try to open them back up. but not so funny after they clawed at my styrofoam { spelling}
boxs and now it looks like it snowed all over in here

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

Mine has been down since 1/2 I had it put right into the attic b/c I knew if I didn't it would probably still be sitting here come next December! LOL

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

OK, I have a question for you all. How many get all their Christmas decorations down and put away, without finding something else that was overlooked. Every year I do a last look-around before hauling the decorations back out to the shop, and every year, a week or two later, I'll find something that didn't get taken down or put away. Anyone else do that?

Middle, TN(Zone 6b)

I do that Weez. It never fails. I don't know how in the world I overlook things that are so obvious. I will find something in a few days. I can count on it.

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Yes, I found some phony poinsettas in one of my planters yesterday

Horn, Netherlands(Zone 8b)

I already got rid of the Christmastree on 5 th januari so the kids can have them for the big fire. The Christmaslights outside are still hanging and will probably stay there until spring comes. It looks so pretty now, because we have snow. I hope the lights give also a little warmth to a few bit tender plants. I've wrapped them in with these lights and I leave the lights on at night because temp. drops from -1C to -11C.
Cold...but I like it.

Hey Evert I've tried this languagerobot also. He tells anything in Dutch with a Finnish accent. I've laughed until my stomach ached.

:D

Saya

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

O yea I have already found several things that got left behind, So I have a small box sitting in the dinning room that I put all of it in until I make another trip into the attic! Not like its hard to get into the attic....just way to cold up there for me! lol

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

:)

Here people are happy when it got warm, -10 C.. :} It was around -25 C for the past 1,5 weeks so -.-.-

I hope your stomach feels better now..? =) Hahah

SEYMOUR, CT(Zone 6b)

oh ya do i find things all over the place, has any one here just plain ol skipped a hole room ?, i did i went in my dinning room and found it dressed to the hilt { i guessed you figured out that i dont do alot of entertaining} ha-ha

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

LOL Can't say as I've missed a whole room, but my house isn't set up that way. mine is all open and I pretty much have to walk thru all the rooms to get to my bedroom. But now I have missed a few things

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

Took down the outdoor decorations this afternoon. I guess the Christmas holidays are really over. And yes, I have continually found things the last few days that neglected to get put away with all the other stuff (found a nativity sun catcher on the backdoor yesterday).

Orlando, FL(Zone 9b)

I HAVE to put the tree up the day after Thanksgiving (it's the only thing that can distract me enough to stay out of the shopping craziness). It stays up until the first weekend in Jan.--unless it dries out before then. We used to have an artificial tree, but it wasn't tall enough for our cathedral ceilings in the house so we switched to real. I wish we could get a nice looking live pine tree to plant in the yard when Christmas was over...Blue spruce doesn't do well in my neck of the woods.

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

How about a Norfolk Pine? Or wouldn't they be hardy for you? Thousands of small ones (to 4') are sold here as houseplants every year.
