DG on your cell phone

If you have a web-enabled phone, you can now access DG via it. The server will automatically recognize you are using a phone to connect, and will give you a nicely formatted page.

It's good for those DG addicts with PCS phones and a long drive across the country. :)

as if I am not addicted enough...haha! hmmm....I wonder if it is too late to put a web enabled phone on my wish list...

Probably. :) I got this one a few weeks ago and it's pretty "handy". Of course, making a phone-able DG wasn't necessary, just fun for me. The last thing I need is to have to work while driving down the road. :)

Howie's eyes lit up, LOL. He uses Avantgo service to download webpages for his pocket PC. You could sign DG up as an Avantgo site - might bring in new members that way, too, says the H-Man. :)

Back when he had his old pocket PC, he tried using Avantgo, but it didn't work too well because it wasn't set up for a small viewing screen like some other Advantgo sites. Your cellphone-optimized version would work with Avantgo, wouldn't it?

I don't think it would work to well being that you are a subscription based web page. But it would be neat to be able to do that.

Then they knocked the Orchid on the floor! Had to buy a bucket of bark& etc. I'll share with you kids

Soon I will be spending do much time on this wonderful site that I won't have to bother with the actual gardening bits ;~).

Where in New York City can you possibly have a garden other than on the roof?

New York City, NY(Zone 6b)

I have a garden of approximately 2500 square feet with south, east and west exposures. It had been managed as a community garden by a man who recently passed away. While he was in ill health, extensive repairs had to be done to the roof and parapet of the adjacent building and he lacked the strength to resume work in the garden. I did all the clean up on my own, and the apartment building board of directors voted to permit me to continue the garden as a solo enterprise.

Wish me luck. (I need it).

Aotearoa,
That sounds very interesting and a big project. Are you keeping pictures of your beginnings and progress?

So, it is a roof garden then? In Manhattan? I lived in Flatbush, lots of gardens there.
Good luck and happy Newyear.

No, it's not on a roof.

This is an L~shaped area adjacent to an apartment building, at lawn level, clearly visible on three sides from sidewaks, which are, on average, 50 feet away. This is a reasonably open professionally landscaped area, surrounded by tree~lined streets, in the Riverdale section of the northwest Bronx, quite near the Hudson River.

What a wonderful opportunity for you! Living in the city it is great to have access to real space to play and it sounds like you made a great impression on them to be allowed to use it.

As for the accessing DG on a digital phone...not practical for me at all since I can barely see the read out even with my glasses on and a phone with a large screen viewing would be way too large to carry around ;~)

Yep..., so far the OPPORTUNITY has been to clean out about two tons of construction debris, pay for a private carter to carry it away, have soil testing done and find out that about half the area has a Cation Exchange Potential of about 8.5 (which for you non~chemists is the fertility of beach sand).

I've shovelled out several cubic yards of dirt and replaced it with soil ~~~ including appropriate ammentments ~~~ (as I am forbidden to construct raised beds). I've build a red~worm farm and essentially gone into the business of manufacturing humic acid.

I've planted hundreds of bulbs, and hope to see those peek up in spring

So, I've learned that gardening is a years~long romance with future potential ~~~ as immediate results all have to do with aching shoulders and palm blisters. When the going gets tough, I show up on this site, look at pictures of other people's gardens..., and dream.

Aaaaargh, no raised beds? Well, it sounds like you're creative and doing things right there, so you'll overcome that boundary and have something really beautiful when you're done. :)

Dave...you are attempting to enable our addiction even further???

My cell phone is not yet web-enabled. I am waiting for prices to go down. (Budget, you know, though I am a subscribing member.)

By the time I get one, I will be connected "at the hip" (HEE, HEE)....
