if you are flying in US after the holidays.
The bad news is that with the new explosive-checking machines at the airports, chocolate and cheese may give a false-positive in your checked baggage (and cause needless delay). So the good news is that you have to take it in your carry-on luggage. It would make the flight better to enjoy some chocolate and cheese during the journey.
But I guess the bad news is for your loved one who was promised a box of candy on your return. "Sorry, I ate it" just doesn't help :)
(Article in our local newspaper gave the traveler alert.)
Good news and bad news
Ahhhhhhhh, Does that mean that the chocolate mousse cake and the Tia Maria Truffles are at risk when I sent them ( and the hickory nut pie), with my nephew on the plane?? I did not send fork or spoon??? lol.
May your holiday be full of peace and warmth.
I don't know when all the airports will have the new devices installed (ours are) but chocolate and cheese signal false positive. Applies only to luggage checked through, not to carry-ons. Are the goodies safe? Depends how messy an eater your nephew might be :)
I guess it varies from airport to airport. I had a pair of cutical scissors in my diaper bag. At Laguardia airport in New York they didn't even get detected (surprisingly) but in Madison, Wisconsin, on my return trip, they got detected and confiscated. -- So you never do know!
