Our two girls were 4 and 8, lots of years ago....We fixed up our basement with paint, paneling and a piece of carpet.
We were able to buy them a little play fridge and stove, dolls and some other things they really wanted. We fashioned a little playroom of sorts and Christmas morning they came down the stairs and truly didnt know where to go first....They thought it was a palace... In the following years they spent alot of wonderful hours down there. Lets hear some memories!

A Favorite Christmas?
When I was a senior in high school, my last gift (usually the "big one"), was a medium-size box. I opened it to find a sweatshirt from the college I desperately wanted to go to.
A note on the shirt said, "wear me to registration day."
The sweatshirt was my parents' way of saying, "We want you to go there for school, even though it's got the highest tuition of the ones you were accepted to."
:) That's my most awesome Christmas memory.

A long-ago Christmas memory: 1964, the last year we went to Grandparents' houses for Christmas (I was 4). The last time I saw my Grandpa (he died a few months later). About the only real memory I have of him, he was eating breakfast one morning during that visit when I came into the dining room, and he had his parakeet, Skippy Peanut Butter, sitting on his shoulder, and was feeding him crumbs from his toast. I can still see the morning light coming in the big window behind his shoulder, with the bird outlined against the panes. Such a wonderful man, I really miss not having known him a lot longer.
Funny what sticks in your memory. I have received many gifts through the years, but to me, Christmas is Grandpa and his bird.
I'm a Christmas nut and love to decorate and try and keep the magic in the season. Going back 25 yrs my children and I were on our own and it was our first Christmas just the three of us. They had made some money helping my sister with her little guy and bought me a gift with their own money. They wrapped it up (it came in two packages)and every night they would take it to bed with them so I wouldn't snoop ha ha I'm getting teary eyed again, well it turns out it was an oil lamp and a bottle of oil, and as I'm typing this memory I'm looking at my oil lamp which I'll always keep. That's my speacil memory, Merry Christmas everyone. Linda
