Christmas for Everyone!!

Jesteburg-Wiedenhof, Germany(Zone 8a)

I know we are a couple of days away from the biggest family festival of the year, so I just want to ask everone to think of those who have no-one on Christmas Day.

This is the day of God's love in the Christian calendar, so please think of your neighbour, or someone you know, who is maybe sitting alone, or in the dark, and remembering their childhood, or maybe their own children, and they remember just too well the excitement of the build up to Christmas.

Now they have no-one, or nothing to look forward to, and sit alone with their wee memories.

Christmas Day for them, must be the saddest day of the year.

Would it cost too much to give these poor souls, a wee box of chocolates, or even a wee card, a flower, or invite them for a bit of Christmas dinner, just to brighten up their day? Would that cost too much?

Nothing big or pompous, just let them know that you care, and that they are not forgotten.

That would make it a Happy Christmas for Everyone, Everywhere

Wintermoor, in my opinion your post speaks of the true holiday spirit. We have a neighbor down the road who doesn't have anyone to share the holidays with. After much prodding, we finally convinced him to come over to share Thanksgiving Dinner with us. He rattled off a list of things that he could make to bring for dinner, one being pecan pies. He made one of the best pecan pies I ever tasted. Now that Christmas is here, (and I remembered everything else that he said he could make), instead of asking him over for dinner I just asked him if he wouldn't mind bringing a macaroni and cheese casserole for our Christmas Dinner. I am hoping he brings another one of those pecan pies though. :o)

Winter - how can you say you are not a "practicing Christian", just because you don't attend church?? You ARE a Christian!

Oh you sweet, caring man. I echo your thoughts and have made plans to make someone's day a happier one. Well, I hope so - at least he will have a full belly for a change. He might turn his nose up at the English fare, especialy dark gravy but it's a chance I'm willing to take..... lol!! So there will be a stranger at my table, perhaps two, on Christmas Day and I can hardly wait!! :-)

Yes, Wintermoor, yes.

I was once the recipient of such a kindness when I was a lot younger and less successful than I am today. The graceful, thoughtful gesture changed what was for me a dismal and wretched season into one in which I felt remembered, cared for..., even loved. More than thirty years later, I still remember the details vividly.

Because I have been very blessed in my career and the security of my family, I have had the chance to reach out more than once to help someone directly and personally on the holiday, as I was once helped. And the only thing warmer than the Christmas memory I have of the kindness I once received, is seeing the expression on the face of the person before me, knowing I am giving them something that they too will remember for many years to come, as my own Christmas Angel must also have known.

Wintermoor, you are indeed Santa's elf! I am once again touched by your warm heart, but not surprised. This thread just makes my day! To you and Joe and SWMBO, I send wishes for a holiday full of opportunities to do what you do best: making people happy. I know that's when you're happiest.

I stopped by my neighbors today after Church to drop off a tin of Pizzelles I had made. When I went in my friends Mother said..."Oh! Did you come to wish me a Happy Birthday"? (her 86th) DUH! I forgot!...but I faked it...and said Yes, and I brought you something....and gave HER the Pizzelles. She promptly hid them in her room so as not to share them...LOL I whispered to my friend that I would return with HER pizzelles....and had to come home and make another batch!! I'm just glad Ms Flo thinks I remembered! Jo

You're a very generous and kind man.

I spare thoughts at this time of year for those who do have family around them but live in an atmosphere of violence, both mental and physical. For those who have and will lose family and friends at this time and for those for whom the memories of Christmas past makes the day difficult to bear. Christmas brings out the best and the worst in people and there are many examples of why Christmas isn't enjoyed by everyone.

Not much you can do for people living in these situations except have a little patience with the crowds and smile. A man smiled at me today for no reason, it made my day perhaps my smile back made his too.

Barry that's wonderful.Somehow I think there is alot more to you then you let us see. There is a big heart there. Your right to many Christmas is not the best time of year and holds many heartaches.Baa you are so right something as simple as a smile can sure make a persons day.Merry Christmas all! (Smile)if nothing else it will make people wonder what you are up to. lol

Baa you are so right. Now, I can take this opportunity to thank you for the smile your brought to my face yesterday. That was so kind of you. I think I'm right in saying that most suicides occur at this time of the year. It can be one of the most joyful times or the most soul-destroying for some. It takes such small effort to spread or share a little happiness and if we could all be on the lookout for telltale signs we could surely make a difference to someone, somewhere. As for you Barry, I still can't get over the lengths you went to, or the miles you travelled, just to spend a little time with me and hubby at Frankfurt but now that I know you better, I'm not surprised. :-)

god bless you one and all.
