Defintions of a Friend

No one has a more prized possession than a good friend. So how do you define/describe a friend?
I think my favorite comes from a little sign that DW has hanging on the cellar door at the NY home, it says: "A friend is someone who knows all about you but likes you anyway".

My idea of a good friend is...someone that is understanding and kind, loving and is willing to go that extra mile for you. Someone that is willing to stand beside you thru thick and thin and and and lol

Very True. maybe that's why we have so "few" of them, lol! I used to be very shy and complained to my Dh that I didn't have a lot of friends like some folk's we knew. He said to me, "you will only have a handful of "real" friends in your life. There may be lots of aquaintences but only a few friends, your parents, me, and our kids, if we are lucky." He is so wise - I didn't worry about it anymore.

I know exactly what you mean PJ! It is also heart breaking when you loose a friend that you "thought" was a "true" good friend!! Me and my "use to be" best friend have gone our seperate ways now after 10 years!! Kinda makes me "on guard" when meeting new people and trying to make new friends. I am also shy so that isn't a plus eaither! LOL

a true friend is someone who takes the time to care. To let you know they care, no matter what else they might be hearing. Someone who takes precious time from their own lives and family to say 'hey, just want to make sure you're okay'
I'm very lucky to have such friends. I count them among my life's treasures.
