Viewing pictures here at Dave's

Richland Center, WI(Zone 4a)

Hi all. One quick question for whom ever can help. Does anyone have problems viewing the pictures here at Daves? I can't see a one. I have no problem anywhere else, just here. HELP!!!!!!!! PLEASE Thank you flowernutt

Fremont, CA(Zone 9a)

I had that problem because of my firewall. With Norton Firewall I had to go to options, Web Content, Add the site "davesgarden.com" and "plantsdatabase.com" then for each site, uncheck the Information about visited sites and change to permit. Each firewall is different. I learned this by reporting a problem and getting a really terrific response from the helpful elves here at Dave's Place.

or you can turn off your firewall/security. Then pics will show up.
Do you have NOrton? I think I have the link to deal with "referers" that will keep Norton running but allow pics to show.

Cochrane, ON(Zone 2b)

I have a problem viewing pics here too. Haven't posted it before because it is hard to explain. This has only happened since I changed to Nets.7. It is only the reduced/preview image I have a problem with & also Dave's logo. Sometimes it is fine & most times it is just a small red circle in the upper left corner. Sometimes when the preview image is there, I pass the cursor over it & the image disappears & I see the red circle. Once I click on it, the full sized image appears & is fine. I know this is probably clear as mud as it is hard to explain. I don't have Norton firewall, but I do use Zonealarm. It is very frustrating but guess I can live with it.

Does this happen when you've had your computer running for a long time without rebooting? Do you have Windows 98, by chance?

Cochrane, ON(Zone 2b)

GW, don't know if are asking me or Flowernutt. Yes I do have Win98. No it isn't just when the computer is running a long time. I'll try & explain further. Let's say I am visiting the 'Photos' forum. The first time I access the page, the preview images are USUALLY all there. But if I enlarge one of the photos & then return to the photos forum, I will just see boxes with a red dot in the upper left corner. Same goes for the logo & the Christmas tree. Sometimes the image is there & if I move the cursor over it, it disappears & the red dot is back again. If you can solve this, you are a genius.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Yes, you, Broots - I should have clarified! Certainly not a genius, LOL! Maybe not even able to solve...I do know Netscape is buggy when it comes to viewing images, though. Have you tried looking at the pages with Internet Explorer, Opera, Mozilla, or any other browser? I'm seeing if I can find some info about Netscape bugs for you...

Cochrane, ON(Zone 2b)

GW, have no problem viewing images with Internet Explorer or Netsc 4.76. I changed to Netsc 7 as I was constantly getting illegal operations with 4.76 & frequently getting the BSOD. Haven't had either one of these things happen with N7. Just can't view images on Dave's. Frustrating as all get out.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Man, no doubt...Out of the frying pan, into the fire! I've been doing stuff around the house this evening so haven't had a chance to put my Searching hat on until now. Let me see what I can find this evening.

Cambria, CA(Zone 10a)

I have had various problems with pics using various browsers. I really like Opera for speed, but it's really clunky in eBay (I have to right-click on the photo icon and open each one). It works like a charm for Dave's though. But I also run Internet Explorer and use that for things that have trouble with Opera (like Hotmail and eBay). I got really frustrated with IE after using Opera because it seems so slooow now, although nothing's changed. Opera's speed has just spoiled me. And for you Netscapers, I've found Opera to be similar in its setup, so there's not a terrible learning curve. Play with them, they are certainly easy enough to turn on and off.

Broots - This newsgroup http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&threadm=jli6qu8h48tht318nov8obk19acjue2ir4%404ax.com&rnum=2&prev=/groups%3Fq%3Dimage%2Bproblems%2Bnetscape%2B7%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26ie%3DUTF-8%26selm%3Djli6qu8h48tht318nov8obk19acjue2ir4%25404ax.com%26rnum%3D2 has someone describing a problem which sounds similar to yours. One of the replies refers to checking image permissions in Preferences and clearing cache and history. Have you tried those steps yet?

I'm almost ready to download and install Netscape 7 just so I can re-familiarize myself with it. It's been ages since I used it and feel like a fish out of water trying to point users in the right direction for help, LOL. But I'm going to be reformatting in a few days and I hate doing anything else to the computer before messing with all of that.

Cochrane, ON(Zone 2b)

GW, checked out the link. I could load the images on the page that the poster couldn't. All of my images are set to display in Prefs. Seeing as I only have this problem on Dave's Garden, guess I can live with it. Right. Thanks for your help.

I just saw your post.
I'm having the same problem!
New keyboard...... I'm not liking it too much.

Richland Center, WI(Zone 4a)

Thank You all so much for your information, and hopefully i can help someone else with what I found to be my problem. So here it goes.
We have the Norton anti-virus with firewall so we open the norton click on options
click on internet security
click on advanced options
Now you are on the "Web" tab stay here
on the left side if you don't see "www.davesgarden in the list then click on ADD site
type in www.davesgarden.com and say ok
now set your mouse arrow over www.davesgarden.com to
highlight it then click on it. This will pop it in a box to the right side. Take notice here does it say block or permit? It should say permit. To do this click to highlight then click on modify then a box will open with the web site and all you have to do is click on permit say ok and back out your all set to see pictures at Dave's Garden. You are all truely a great group of people. So eager to aid where ever a need. God bless you all and happy gardening. Flowernutt Tami
I hope this will help someone.

Excellent! That's a lot more effective than shutting down the firewall. We use ZoneAlarm, but there's lots of people here at Dave's who use Norton's firewall and this will be a great thread to point folks to when they ask.

I just spent two hrs. trying all sorts of thing's to get the pictures in! I was in such a mess I had nothing but a black screen!

I deleted "Norton's Firewall" Now I see all the gorgeous flowers from all you"Green Thumbs!"

cape may court house, NJ(Zone 6a)

Hello Garden Wife:

I had Zone Alarm and never had a problem!
I hope that I don't regret not having a firewall!!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

The only problem I have with the current version of ZoneAlarm (running on Windows XP) is that it will keep us from accessing the web if the computers are idle for a time. Shutting it down and restarting it fixes the problem, however. We're using a router/network hub, and I suspect it might have to do with that.

Directions to enable referrers in Norton and Zone Alarm are shown below. If you
are using a different product, please consult your product's documentation to
enable the referrers.

Norton Internet Security

* Open Norton Internet Security.
* Click "Options".
* Click "Internet Security".
* Click the "Advanced Options" button.
* Click the "Privacy" tab.
* Change Referrer (under Browsing Privacy) to "Permit"
* Click "OK".
* Click "OK" again.
* Close Norton Internet Security and the pictures should show up.

Zone Alarm

* Open the Zone Alarm configuration panel by double clicking on the Zone
Alarm icon on the bottom right of your Windows Taskbar, or by opening
Zone Alarm from the "Start" and "Programs" menu.
* Select the "Privacy" menu on the left hand side.
* Click on the button labelled "Custom", in the "Cookie Control" section.
* Remove the tick from "Remove Private Header Information".
* Click "OK", then close the Zone Alarm configuration panel. The pictures
should work fine now.

arlene

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Hee, hee...Now that Howie and I talked about it, we didn't have this problem until upgrading to XP.
