Thinking of taking on this place for a hunting/fishing spot. Commically enough the place is just over the Cumberland Gap know as "earth road" and this is the last cottage commonly called "end of earth road".
What do you think, a real fixer upper?
It's 110 acres with the pond and sidling creek running along one side of the property???

End of the Earth - Road
Any fish in the pond or creek? Could stop in, looks great!Bernie
That is a strange looking house, but who cares! The property is great. Imagine how many plants you can fit in there. You'll never run out of room. And it has a creek and a pond, I wouldn't mind if the house was built upside down. I would still want it.
Looks great haighr
Wish I could stop in too :)
If I could find something like that around here I'd buy it in a minute if the price was reasonable. Go for it!
Go for it!!!!!
oh wow! whimper whimper
Nice property, funny house, I'd go for it. Land is what it is and where it is, the buildings can be changed. My guess would be the house was originally an A frame and then one side was added on. We have remodeled several fixer uppers, they do make interesting projects and give you an education in the process.
We're gonna do it. I will finally have a pond and will be putting some plants in it. There is an apple and pear tree just outside the house and I have lots of things in my garden that will need separated and now will have just the spot for them. Steve is real excited - the house needs some work, I believe it is an A-frame with an addition. Will be perfect for a weekend get away as it is a lot closer than the bay property. Guess we'll be investing in a row boat - Imagine me "On Golden Pond" LOL!
I think it's a wonderful place Carmen. I'm so happy for you that you found such a wonderful retreat.
I think we will really enjoy it. I am told they stock the creek with trout and that there are plenty of fish in the pond. Guess we just need to start catching some to find out what kind.
Would you believe my older son camped out with his Senior Patrol from his Boy Scout troop on Sidling Hill !!! They always went the third week of February. They had to build their own shelters out of snow and then sleep in them. This was to protect them from the mountain's fierce winter winds. It was nicked named "the big freeze"! Gee, I wonder why???
Beautiful river and lots of possibilities with the yard surrounding the "mountain retreat". I know that you will beautify the pond in record time!
Oh my, I just re-read this thread and noticed that I got your name confused Candee. I called you Carmen. I'm sorry.
Boy am I envious. My first vision was of hundreds of tulip bulbs planted beneath those trees. And the house is doable. Need help? Boy, my imagination goes wild with these pictures. Good for you!
Shirley, sounds like a fierce group camping up there as it is nasty in the winter, can't imagine not having a real roof over my head up there in winter.
No problem Joan, I've been called worse LOL!
Stella, yes could use all the help we can get. Won't have the tulips this spring, but just you wait.
And, all the tall grasses I'll be putting in and oh my, I just keep getting ideas.
Our son in CT is already talking 4 wheeler to get around the woods and Steve is practically working on a raft/pontoon for the pond!
I say, lets get the roof fixed first, the electric will be turned on 12/27 and we'll go from there.
I almost thought for a second he was gonna suggest cancelling our Christmas trip so we could spend all that time up there.
Candee-they were the Explorer Division of Senior Scouts (VERY rugged, well trained, physically fit, High School boys who loved "roughing it"). My older son looked forward to the "big freeze" each February on Sidling Hill. That might be fine for the teenage boys, but what adult wants that type of adventureous experience in the middle of the winter on a mountain side? Obviously, one of "the boys" that never grew up!
Sounds like Steve is into adventures too! The raft/pontoon boat sounds like an interesting & exciting project. Plus, Steve wouldn't dare cancel your Christmas trip to the warm & sunny tropics....NOT if he valued his life & marriage :~) Shirley
Don't worry Shirley, he would never suggest such a thing, he is as anxious to get away to some warm weather as anybody. He also looks forward to getting me away at the holidays when the kids can't be home.
Sounds like the boys loved that adventure in the wilderness, but you won't find me anywhere near Sidling Hill in the winter without amenities like HEAT! The weather is bad enough here in Hagerstown, without going crazy up to that mountain!
How fun for you....looks like you will have a ball with your new cottage.
