I'm talking to a friend that has never heard of them,Does anyone else love em like I do?
Boiled Peanuts!
I love them also, I always boil then and put them in the freezer.
I can't stop eating them,I need to make more for hockey game, decided to test them an they are gone
they are better than tater chips, can't eat just one can!!
I'm afraid they haven't made it this far north. I've never seen them before.
I love them too! I eat too many, just can't stop.
DH thinks they are the best food ever! He can't get enough of them. I guess it what you grow up eating as I have never developed a taste for them but love everything else peanutty. He is a Louisianian and I think it is a required food to eat there or close to it. LOL! Georgia, Alabama, Florida and Mississippi folks eat a lot of them too from what I am told.
I guess I grew up lucky,My Mom is a Ga. Gal,so I like grits too!I bought 2cases of peanuts to take camping, nuttin better around a fire.
Oh yea,
I'm a GA girl and they have been grown here on this farm for over 60 years..This was the 1st year ever that they haven't been grown since my father-in-law bought this place ..But I do still eat them..LOL..I feel sorry for anyone that has never had the pleasure..
Larkie
Larkie go to photos an get your yea vote in LOL,Then figger out how to send some I can grow next year!
Here on the bayou, we add Zatarain's Crab Boil seasoning
to the water.
The liquid version is easiest to use. Try small batches until you get it just right for your taste. The stuff can
get hot!!!
For a special treat, use the crab boil and then roast them
in the oven .
Tres Bon Cher!
Bud
I like Hot!never thought of hot peanuts,I'll look for the sauce,I have some roostersauce I might try slow cooking into some tonight, ummm!breakfast:)maybe some of this cayenne? Are you saying to roast these canned ones I have?
DW just got a recipe from our "house sitters" for beer nuts made from raw peanuts. Boil 'em roll them in the sugarery stuff with coarse salt then bake in the oven. Real bad for the WW program but real good.
Yes, I loved boiled peanuts from early childhood, when we bought them from a street vendor in Vicksburg, Mississippi.
I have had them befor yumm
I've had boiled peanuts and like them but only cajun style. I'd probably like it with the crab boil seasoning. Fresh-roasted peanuts are yummy, too. Can someone tell me how to roast and/or boil peanuts at home? Is it anything like roasting pumpkin seeds? I'd love to try this myself. I can get the raw peanuts at the store (usually they go out in the feeder for the birds and squirrels).
Butterfly,
You have to have green peanuts to boil, The raw ones that you can buy are fine for roasting..No recipe really, just spread on large baking sheet,(I use a huge 20 inch black cast iron pan).. keep well tossed with butter, and salt to taste..(salty) LOL..Roast on very low, say 250 -300 degrees, keep stirred and it takes awhile, tasting and eyesite are the best judges, golden brown..I have roasted peanuts, or pecans for 2-3 hrs at a time on very low..The slower the better.
Larkie
Larkie, I had forgotten about roasting pecans! My mother use to do that every CHristmas and boy are they good.
Rootdoctor,
We have a little store down the street that sells Boiled Peanuts...they are cooks in Zatarain's. My son-in-law comes here from San Diego and spends as much time at the little store buying peanuts as he does spending time with us. LOL
Larkie:
OK. So I can roast my own peanuts, but not boil them 'cause I don't have the right kind. What's the difference between green peanuts and raw peanuts? Seems like it would be one and the same thing. I guess maybe green ones are not yet mature??? You'll have to excuse me as I'm one of those northern transplants living in the south--still learning!
Butterfly,
You need green peanuts in the shell..They need to be as freshly harvested as possible, as soon as they are out of the ground they began to dry, losing the oils needed for good boiling.. Kinda of like fresh peas, if they get too dry, they have to be used as dry beans or peas, the same with peanuts, as they are in the pea family..If they are too dry they will never get soft enough to eat..If you can find the canned ones, give them a try..Not as good from the field and just cooked, but pretty close and they come in handy when I have a craving kicking in and none in the freezer, lol..
