I'm in Kolkata now

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

Hi,
This is my debut in a cyber cafe, in the city of Kolkata (old name is Calcutta) 2020 kms from home and visiting DG became irresistable. I last saw some days ago. I have come here for a cricket tournament. Unfortunately, our team has lost the game and we are knocked out of the scene today, even though my top score with the bat was not enough. In the end, we felt we should have scored at least about 50 runs more. Will get back home only on 16th. More when I get back home.

Hi, Dinu! So sorry about your team not winning, I know that is disappointing. You have a good team, though, and many wins are in your future. I know how addictive DG is, thankfully there are now cybercafes where we can get our "fixes"! Wishing you a safe journey home.

sorry you didn't win, but hope you had fun. And thanks for stopping and letting us know how you are doing!

To lose the game is not so important,
the most important lies in you have joined in.
and you have had a visit to your northeast
port city Calcutta.hope to hear more about your trip.

I was in Calcutta years ago Dinu, with John McLaughlin Mahavishnu (jazz rock), and I had a wonderful time. I was warned not to eat anything at the street markets, but the smell was so wonderful that I ate my fill, and I'm still alive, as you can see :-D
Maybe it was better that I didn't know what was in it !!!
I did the same in Bombay and New Delhi, also with no strange effects, all of them great cities, and extremely friendly people.

I try to get to an Indian restaurant at least once a month ... my favourite dish is a very hot Chicken Vindaloo, or any Bhuna that you can throw in my general direction.

By the way, don't worry about losing your game up there, did you see the thrashing England got in Australia, losing "The Ashes" yet again. The Australians are demanding that the urn with "The Ashes" be sent now to Australia, since they've won the games so often.

HOWZATT !!!

I'm back home. :)
Glad the tour was over. Why our team was disappointed was that we had put up a champion performance last year and we were the defending champions! We losing the match so badly was the news in the camp! It was due to some bad batting from the top order. I had to hold fort and came up with the top score of 44. But our total was not enough to fight. The very small ground confused all of us and we had something reasonable to expect. The organizers did so badly in posting a match there. That was another news! The opponents scored the runs easily.

Speaking of Calcutta, it is a crowded city, very very crowded. The floating population is more than the living polulation there. Transportation is a big problem. All streets are so crowded that vehicles can move only at snail's pace. But there is the metro-train (underground) which takes people very quickly to destinations. The TRAM still functions. The British made it many decades ago. There are old buildings too, many of them. This was my fourth visit there.

Being a vegetarian, I found it difficult to find 'south-Indian' food outside, though the organizers had arrangements in the camp itself (they did this badly too!). Fish-eaters had a good time.

How annoying that the organizers did such a poor job. It must have been very frustrating for you. Well, am glad you are safely home, in the warmth of your own locale and able to eat food you are accustomed to. I, too, am a vegetarian, and know how difficult it can be to find suitable food choices. There will be more opportunities for your team in the future, and hopefully these will be better orchestrated by the organizers.
